After shopping a LOT I found the PetStep ramp. I liked the fact that it's approved by the ASPCA, and ordered one.
The ramp is well made of very sturdy plastic construction. We leave it set up outside all the time, and it's clear that it will last. The instructions that come with it say that it will hold 250 pounds and I believe it. A very nice feature is that the center part of the ramp, where the dog walks, is a rubberized material, making it easy walking.
With a little training, our Kendall can now get herself up and down the ramp. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! We taught her by leading her up and down the ramp by holding a dog snack a couple of feet in front of her, then giving it to her when she completed the trip. Then we gradually replaced the dog treats with petting, hungs and congratuations--which she liked even better than the treats. These days a "good dog" does the trick.
