Product Description

Size: Medium/Large

The Magic Mushroom is a meal dispensing dog toy that can be used instead of a traditional food bowl to slow fast eaters and help support weight management efforts. The base of the mushroom twists off to easily load or remove kibble. Open the windows wide under the mushroom cap for faster dispensing, or close more tightly for more of a challenge. Works with a wide variety of food options. Not a chew toy. Dishwasher safe, top rack only.

I switched my dog to getting both his daily meals in treat dispensers a couple months ago, so that he would get more mental stimulation out of his meals and they would last longer. This mushroom is now one of our two favorite toys. It is really easy to load - just unscrew the wide base, drop a cup of dog food in and screw it back on (unlike some where you have to drop small amounts bit by bit into the toy to fill it up). The dog really likes that he can pick it up by the mushroom hat - it lets him carry it to wherever he wants to play with it. He can pick it up and follow me into the kitchen to see what I'm doing and then take it back into the living room or if it gets stuck against a wall he can easily pick it up and move it. It takes him a reasonable amount of time to get all the food out, but is easy and not frustrating. I also think it's a cute toy, so I like it. He has never tried to chew it to get the food out, he understands the game.

Easy to use pet toy. Keeps the dog entertained as they figure out how it works. My German Sheperd took about 10 minutes to figure out how to get the treats out. It will keep your dog occupied and makes them think, wearing them out some.

I have a not-quite-two year old brilliant dog with loads of energy and curiosity. She has recently been weaning herself out of her crate. While I have used kongs since she was a pup, she needs something more complex. I have invested in numerous puzzles for her and she figures them out quickly.

I use this product to feed her when I have to leave the house around mealtime, and when I return it's empty and she is calmly laying in wait. I hide it in various places of the house and she has to go find it and feed herself. I also use it just when she needs something to do while I'm working in my home office.

I mistakenly ordered 2, but am glad I did.

I purchased this for my border collie cross- I already have several treat dispensing toys (the IQ ball, the Monster Mouth, and the Twist n Treat). I like the design and concept, appreciate how easy it is to fill up, and that you can disassemble completely for ease of washing.

BUT- as another reviewer mentioned, this toy is not bottom-heavy enough, even when filled with food. As a result, it's not nearly as challenging as it should be. It just lies on its side, which defeats the purpose of the dog having to flip it over to get food into the mushroom cap and flipping it over again to get the food out. I'm pretty disappointed. I also wish it were possible to close the windows separately- the three holes the treats come out of are designed so that whichever setting you apply to one window applies to all windows. I may do something to close off two of the three windows to make this toy more challenging.

Unfortunately, the mushroom cap is designed in such a way that it's very easy to chew on. The plastic doesn't seem to be of particular strength, either. My dog is NOT a chewer and isn't a big dog (only 35lbs) and there were teeth marks on the edge of the mushroom cap within the first ten minutes. It seems to dent just from when my dog picks up the toy by its mushroom cap.

I got this small version for my 3 month old yellow lab mix puppy. It took her about 5 minutes to learn how to get any treats out. Once she knew how it still took another week for her to get really good at her technique. She still finds it interesting and wags her tail whenever I pick it up. She is 8.5 months now and we now have both the small and the large version. Both appear durable to me, but she isn't interested in it at all once the treats are gone, so she isn't chewing it. When she is playing with it she is solving the puzzle not using it like a chew toy, other dogs might just chew it. We use the small one EVERY morning. She gets 2/3 of her food in her bowl and 1/3 in the small toy. It takes her 5-10 minutes to empty the small. About once a week I give her whole evening meal in the large and that keeps her attention for 10-15 minutes. My dog really enjoys both toys. I've got an extra small one in the closet just in case the first one breaks but its 5 months old now and still works great.

My terrier mix has a habit of tipping her bowl of food over and then eating it. This toy actually rewards her for doing it. I can put all her food in there and it entertains her for hours and she figured it out quickly. She has to work for her meals now but it keeps her mind busy and she loves it. Perfect for dogs that are food motivated and like to use their paws.

Our dog hasn't caught onto tiping the mushroom and a treat will come out. He bites it, carries it and shakes it and gets his treat. The friend that introduced me, her dog hit it with his paw, tipped it over and treat came out. I'm not dissappointed, give my dog a work out. He slept better the first couple evenings he had worked for treats!

We have a few Busy Buddy toys for our dogs. We're talking heavy chewers. This has totally stood up to their abuse. It's made out of some kind of ballistic plastic or something. We fill it up, and they're set for entertaiment while we eat dinner. It's very fun to watch them figure the toys out. I would totally recommend any of their products and will continue to buy them. GREAT busy toy. Even for Labs and Danes. ;)
