Basic Cat Door Satisfies Owner and Cat Alike,

The installation of this was a little bit of a nail-biter... I mean, you are cutting a hole in a door, and in this case, my bedroom door.
It went smoothly, and installed in under 30 minutes. My cat is not a true fatty, but on the husky side, weighing in at 15lbs, but he fits through this door without a problem - sometimes at a full gallop, which is kind of crazy to watch. One minute he's there, running at this small hole, and the next... PLOOP!... he's gone. The one downside is that there is no liner that comes with the kit to seal the interior of the door, which might be an even bigger problem had my door been hollow. I recommend using some black duct tape, or gaffer's tape to just ring the interior cut of the door before finally installing the two frames (one on each side of the door you're cutting into). This door is basic, and made of plastic, but works as advertised and has already saved us hours of sleep when we would have had to get up to let the cat in or out, as his fickle will dictated at all hours of the night. I'm a happy customer!

trapped cat,
By

This door seemed great. I had to work with my cat for a while to train him on pushing the plastic flap, but eventually he got it and it was working well. I use it to connect a window on a closed in porch that has his kitty litter in it, to the kitchen. If I keep the kitty litter in the house, the dog will eat it. After he had fully mastered the system, I then went away overnight. When I returned, I found a very traumatized, upset kitty trapped on my back porch. In his travels back and forth, he had loosened the small piece of plastic that locks the flap. He hadn't been able to return back into the house and to his food and water. I promptly broke off the piece of plastic that allows it to lock; it's simply not a safe product with it.

We have been using this for about 2 months now. My kitty is about 15 pounds, so this supposed to be the wrong size for him. But I knew that cats can squeeze in and out of almost everything, and I prefer the smaller hole.
The quality seems just fine for the in-basement-window-pane use that we have. I'm not sure this is the one I would pick to put in a valuable thick door, but I can't say exactly why not.

cats can come and go,

It went on so easily with the right saw. We installed it on a bedroom door. In the past the cats kept waking my son up to be let in or out. Now he can sleep in peace.
The hard part was getting the cats (6 & 7 years) to accept the flap. The magnet scared them. It took a few days for them to realize that the door wasn't going to grab their tail. I love the freedom that we have now.

Maybe It's My Cat's Fault,

She isn't the brightest cat around. The whole reason I got the cat door was so the cat could get out of my bedroom without waking me (she would make a whole bunch of noise at 4AM) but not be able to get back in unless I want her in.
I ended up doing quite a bit of modding to the door to make it quiet. At first, she would just paw at the flap. This would then smack back down and make a ton of noise which defeated the purpose. Now I have the flap smack into padding instead of hard plastic. It's not a horrible door. It doesn't jam or anything like that. The side that is not held on by screws did fall off like other people had said. I really don't care though. For reference, I did install it on a hollow door.

I didn't want to spend the extra money for a bigger dog door for my 18 pound, big boned cat so I tried this and it worked for him just fine. I only wish they made it so that the interior plastic edges touched. We put it in a hollow door and there is nothing to cover it. But its inexpensive and works for what I needed it for.

Works for our fat cat,

OK, he's not that big, maybe 13-14 lbs., but he has no problems using this cat door. And we're glad to have the litter box out of the kitchen.

I purchased two of these doors and have installed them both. One in fiberglas mosquito screen and the other in the thin metal kick plate of a screen door. Although this is not designed for screening or thin screen doors, it can easily be modified by cutting out a 1" X 1/4" piece of the housing opposite the magnet. This permits a flush fit between both halves of the cat door, enabling a tight fit through an opening in a mosquito screen or thin kick plate on screen door. The door works well and permits easy passage for cats and presumably small dogs. However, the locking mechanism does not secure the door/flap. The slide mechanism is stiff which is good as the animal can't move it but it is easy to only partially engage the lock. Care must be taken to ensure the slide lock is fully secure. Even when fully secure, it takes very little pressure to push on the bottom corner of the flap and force the lock, same on the return. Our 6 month old kitten weighing in at all of 7 lbs, has no trouble pushing through the flap even after it is securely locked. My modification to permit screen installation has no bearing on the locking mechanism. If you don't need the lock, the door works well but if want to be able to lock animals in or out, this lock is not up to the task.

BREAKS WITHIN WEEKS,
By
This review is from: PetSafe Cat Flap Small (Misc.)
Easy to install, small catdoor. Perfect if you only have a small space of wood on the bottom of your door.
BUT: the lock is extremely weak and BREAKS EASILY after using it a few weeks. It is also very difficult for the lock to grab the little holes; it can take you several minutes to simply try and lock the thing. Also the smooth flipping disappears after a while and when your kid (cat) walks through it: the door stays open and hardly closes. I buy many catdoors, but this is the last one I will buy (unless now: I need to replace the broken door for the 3rd time).

Decent, low cost cat door,

I purchased this to install on my laundry room door. For the price, it does its job well. The only thing I wish it had was a interior shield for installing in hollow doors. I had to fabricate my own so my cats wouldnt get snagged.
