Product Description

Enjoy stress-free walks in the park with your dog, and help train your pet at the same time. The Gentle Leader Head collar is designed to let you communicate with your dog in a way he instinctively understands. It removes his natural tendency to pull on the leash by placing gentle pressure on calming points and eliminating uncomfortable pressure on the throat. No pain is involved, and the humane Gentle Leader never chokes. By reducing your pet's desire to pull away, the head collar helps combat lunging, jumping, excessive barking, and aggression. The supple nylon straps apply pressure at the back of the neck and front of the throat. It is not a muzzle, and your pet can use his mouth to eat, drink, bark, fetch, and pant. Ideal for dogs 25 to 60-pound and 8 weeks or older. Can be worn up to 18 hours per day. Includes easy-to-follow fitting instructions, abbreviated training guide, and comprehensive training DVD. Also converts to a regular collar after your dog's training is complete.

No more pulling as we walk the dogs.

We ran across other dogs, squirrels, and an oblivious cat, and I exerted almost no effort in discouraging my dog from chasing them.

My 65 lb dog does great with this gentle leader. Even my 4 year old and 8 year old can walk the dog when he wears this, because it prevents the dog from pulling. I highly recommend that you watch the included video on how to properly useit. The dog needs to wear it a few times without a leash attached to get used to the feeling of having something around it's mouth. Give your dog a treat when you put it on the first few times, so the dog realizes he will get rewarded for wearing it. After they are used to it, attach the leash and go for a walk. If the dog starts to pull, a gentle tug on the leash will stop them.

Living in Florida I often say God Bless whomever invented air conditioning. Well, I have to tell you that I would say the same thing about the Gentle Leader!!!
It was like flipping a switch from a sled dog wannabe on a mission, to a wonderful companion who loves to walk peaceably! It works! Just follow the instructions for the proper fitting. Thank you, thank you.

I bought the Gentle Leader Head Collar for my 65lb female Rhodesian Ridgeback who thinks she's a sled dog. She was constantly pulling and choking herself with a regular collar, so I decided to try this.

It somewhat worked. When she pulled, it turned her head, which she didn't like. She pulled a lot less often. But, she hated the collar so much that she would constantly swipe at it with her paws while we were walking. It was a funny looking dance, but I take the dogs for a walk to relax, not to annoy the hell out of them. Before or after a walk she would rub her face on the carpet or grass in attempts to get the collar off of her. In addition, because the hookup of the leash/collar is under her head, I found that she would walk over it a lot and it would end up under one of her arms. They we had to do an untangle dance. Not fun at all.

I decided to try the Sporn Pet Halter instead after watching their videos and trying my other dog's regular harness on her. It really works. I'm not sure about the science behind it, but it has completely solved my sled dog problem and we walk much happier now.

I saw an immediate change in running with my dog. Usually, he pulls so much that after a few miles I'm about to just let him go. I was using a bungee leash with a pinch collar. Without the pinch collar he practically chokes himself to death. I was getting to the point of just leaving him at home when I go on runs, but he gets soooo excited when he sees me gearing up. SO- at the recommendation of a trainer, I put my dog in the Gentle Leader for ~1h a day for ~1 week. I was really positive when he wore it so that he would think of it as a good thing even though I could tell he was NOT happy about it at first. Yesterday we went on our first offical run with the GL and it was so amazing! I used a regular (non-bungee) leash and the Gentle Leader. That's it, no pinch collar, no choking! For the first time, he ran WITH me. Such a difference!

The Gentle Leader has been recommended by Susan Garrett, trainer of champion agility dogs. I had recently adopted an adult cattle dog who is dog-reactive, and I needed something to be able to direct her attention away from a distraction and towards me without jerking or harsh treatment. (She leaps, pulls, and barks at big dogs, squirrels, etc.) The Gentle Leader is perfect! Now instead of trying to haul her away, I can turn her head away and get her attention more easily. I still have to train her to ignore the distraction, of course, but this makes an enormous difference. Please note: When getting your dog used to it, and during the fitting, have LOTS of treats your dog loves and feed for each little step (looking at the head halter, nosing it, putting the loop over the nose, bringing the back pieces up, etc.). Make it a positive thing! Repeat each step until it's no big deal. Do a bit at a time, and your dog probably will look forward to putting it on. Then practice a little walk, lots of treats, take it off. Keep the dog moving and interested in you. You want "Put on the Gentle Leader = good things happen!" When I put it on my dog, she knows we're going to do something extra-fun, like take a walk, go for a car ride to somewhere cool, etc. The point is to use it a training tool, and eventually not need it. Don't leave it on like a collar; it's just for training, walks, etc. **Watch the video** that comes with it--it's really helpful. So far it's made a world of difference in helping me train my dog to be less reactive.

we took in a rescue dalmatian that had horrible other animals skills and would chase and bark at everything on our walks pulling and tugging make it extremely hard to walk her.

After about a month now using the gentle leader we have taught her to sit lay down and our walks are now really walks and not a cat hunt ..

Products works if you take the time.

I got the medium size, in red not fawn but everything else is the same. I love it, it's made my walks & runs with my dog so much easier and stress free. At first, most dogs won't like it. They will throw themselves on the floor, try wiping it with a paw, etc. Just keep trying but don't leave it on them unattended. My dog is a constant puller, and at times it comes on very sudden which is annoying. This took care of the issue immediately. Makes me want to take him out more often. Definitely recommended.
