Easy to assemble and install.

What was preventing them from making the upper lip (the thing that is almost solely responsible for keeping this unit in the window) 3/4's of an inch or more?
James Bond
My Cat LOVES this veranda, she is not an outside cat,so this allows her to be out and enjoy the view.

Unfortunately, if you're considering the Cat Veranda, you should not only read the positive reviews, but also pay very careful attention to the reasons why the "James Bond" reviewer gave it one star. I won't repeat that reviewer's text, but I wish I'd seen it before we bought this item. I urge you to study the content of that one-star review so that you will understand what problems you must be prepared to overcome if you decide to go ahead and get the Cat Veranda. You will absolutely have to do some extra work, including some creative problem-solving, in order to compensate for the serious defects which "James Bond" quite accurately describes.

And when you set the unit in your window, you will see how utterly unnecessary these problems are. Someone really dropped the ball when this product went from the cocktail-napkin-sketch phase to the manufacturing phase, apparently skipping that crucial middle phase of design->test->troubleshoot->redesign->repeat as necessary until the product is viable.

There is truly no excuse for the fact that the lip which needs to overlap the window sash is so skimpy that no such overlap is possible, no matter what kind of sash you have. And if you apply the foam strip to the bottom of the sash as directed, then the lip doesn't even come within 1/4 inch of meeting the sash, let alone overlapping.

The result is that, in order to secure the unit for adequate kitty safety, you have to ignore a lot of the printed instructions while you spend time jury-rigging extra brackets and improvising makeshift anchoring strategies.

The Petsafe Cat Veranda is extremely well made, very sturdy and easily installed. My cat truly enjoys sitting in it to watch the birds and the squirrels. It gives her a chance to get "out of the house" yet provides safety and security. I was very impressed with the quality of this product.

It's a wonderful product, except for the fact that the moveable sides are also moveable by my cat. He pushed one open and jumped through my two-story window. Do whatever it takes to prevent this from happening with your own cat.

This is a terrible product and it is unsafe at any height - it should receive negative stars, it is that bad. It is impossible to install safely and correctly and I don't believe that it is intended for vinyl windows although the manufacturer doesn't tell you that. Do you want to run screws into vinyl window frames? What if you decide to take it out? What do you do about the hole then? At least you can fill the hole in wood.

I have no idea what type of window they think this fits but I have Anderson wood that are vinyl clad (no way) and replacement all vinyl windows (not a chance). I suppose it may fit certain types of old style wood windows with PERFECTLY FLAT sash bottoms. Here's the problem: the upper lip of the veranda that is designed to engage the bottom of the window sash (the window closes down on the top and holds the veranda in place) is only 3/8's of an inch high, partly because screw heads protrude and effectively reduce the bearing surface. Why so little material? I have no idea but it is absolutely a design flaw. Further, even if that paltry amount of engagement surface is acceptable to you, there is no way to get a screw into any part of the upper sash to secure the sash to this upper lip because the screw (if you could get it to hit anything at all) will completely miss unless you angle it up or do some other type of butcher job. My sashes are not completely flat on the bottom (Anderson) and this makes it impossible to install this unit because the angled bottom causes the wood on the window frame to be right at the edge of the metal upper lip discussed above. However, even with a totally flat bottom sash you only have 3/8's of an inch to play with. Not enough to safely install a screw.

I rescue cats and they love having their own little space looking out over our woods. This allows them fresh air as well as safety. They can watch the the squirrels. Also the squirrels can kitty kitty without being ripped apart! THis is a great quality product. I have 5 of them.

I have 3 indoor cats. I've had this product for a couple years now, and the cats literally line up to go out into it. 2 cats will fit, but they don't like getting that close together anyway. Mine is installed under an eave, so it doesn't get wet in normal rain. The carpet is easy to remove and clean. One improvement I recommend to the manufacturer is that an additional weather seal should be designed and built-in to the cat flap. It currently has a small gap at the top which leaks air in and out of the house. Installation is pretty simple--just like installing a window A/C, but not heavy. Very solid construction but could use a little more thought into weather stripping around the outside, so that the customer doesn't have to improvise. No rust or other issues after all this time.
