5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
This pet door is just what I needed. Installation is practicly foolproof, and the diagrams of the steps are very easy to understand. The door itself is sturdy, and the flap is made of a thick, durable plastic. Like the other pet doors I've bought, this one has a magnet at the bottom of the flap which helps to keep it closed when it's not being used.

I noticed the other reviewer didn't like the plastic screws, but I actually prefer them. Metal screws would likely rust, especially if you live in a rainy locale, so I think plastic is a better choice. All in all, I can't really find anything negative to say about this product.

I purchased this door for my two mixed breed dogs, each around 70 pounds, and a mild climate. The door was very easy to install; however, the plastic is cheap and not very sturdy. It also does not have a good seal and in the winter, cold air comes streaming in around the sides of the plastic. In a year's time, I am also on my third replacement flap (they rip across the top) - these aren't cheap and I've already spent more on replacement flaps than the actual door. The closing panel is also very flimsy plastic and doesn't lock. Anyone can reach through the flap from the outside and push up the panel to get through the door. I will be upgrading to a more sturdy, more secure and higher quality dog door soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pet Safe Pet Door, July 21, 2008
I have had two of these pet doors for the last 8 years and am just now replaceing them. They tend to warp after so many hot and cold days. But I would say that anything that last 8 years is an excellent product. I just bought two more for the pups.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, December 2, 2009

I have not looked closely at many other pet doors, but this one certainly does the job for my application (basement entrance). The install was easy, but you do have to be careful with the plastic screws as others have mentioned. I think that they are included as a way to protect the plastic frame; it would be too easy to over tighten a metal fastener and crack the frame. The door flap does swing open a bit on windy nights, so you may consider the "Extreme" model if you live in the cold and have the door in the main part of the house. The "large" size works well for our 88 lb boxer mutt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick!, June 26, 2009

Installation is not super easy--you will need 2 people once you get the hole cut. I have dogs of all sizes from 15 lbs to 70 lbs. I measured the opening to fit my tallest dog. This caused some consternation to one short-legged dog I have, but she has adapted and learned to push the flap and jump up (just a bit) and over. So far I really like it. Easy to attach the cover if you don't want them going out (like in the middle of the night.) Also happy that even though the flap is a bit heavy (with the magnet), that our cat has also learned how to use the door. (She thinks she is a dog anyway.) And it keeps the flies out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Have had better pet doors, July 13, 2009
Now that it's installed I hope this pet door holds up. The quality seems a little weak. The directions are straight forward. Two people really help to intall this door. One thing I found out the really helped was, I super glued the black pieces into the slots on one side. They kept popping out. A little super glue really helped free up our four hands. I will shop around a little more next time.

This is a really good door. We had to remove the bottom magnet though as it makes quite the 'snapping' sound when it swings closed... and we use it for our bedroom door, so we were being woken up by our cats and dog going back and forth all night... Good construction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogs love it!, March 22, 2009

This is a great door for the price. We have been shopping a while & this definitely beats what you'll pay at somewhere like Lowes for the same product. Installation was easy - even into our metal door. We did use the plastic screws that came with the door & though I did see other people's comments about subbing metal screws, I figure we can always simply replace if we run into any problems with the plastic ones. It also insulates sound better than I would have imagined.

The magnet at the bottom is good & strong, it snaps shut every time. One thing we did run into -- the door that comes with it is a snap-on type (which is good for us because we could not have used the ones that slide up with our door style, but be aware you will have a door laying around when not in use), but it was hard to get on the first time. My husband had to pop it on using a screwdriver & that seemed to loosen it up a bit for easier use since.

4.0 out of 5 stars cat door, December 20, 2008

Great for its purpose. I installed it myself in the basement door so I can keep litter box down there. What I would change: the flap could be more translucent (I think the cats would like to see through it) and the screws should get covered/hidden for looks. It took a couple days for my two cats to get used to it, one can still be hesitant about going in but they have no choice. If they go through slowly it does look like their tail gets caught on the side of the flap; however, I don't think it's tight or squeezes the tail.
