Some cats know how to force it open.,

This review is from: PetSafe Staywell 4-Way Locking Cat Flap, White (Misc.)
This cat door has a small key that switches the door to either fully locked, fully open, in only and out only. When in the position chosen, it does stay in place. There is no way for it to accidenatally lock itself due to the way the locking mechanism works. Easy installation instructions. It is made out of a heavy duty plastic that is spray-paintable (I painted mine black with spray paint made for plastic to match by screened door).
I have had it for over a year, and recently adopted a new cat. This cat forces it open with ease. The main problem about this, is that once it is forced open, the other cat can follow, and then both can't get back inside. I now regret not buying one of the models with the solid panel that slides down over the flap to lock the door. All in all, this door is great, unless you have a determined cat...in which case, you'll be in my boat!

Great Cat Flap,

I have six indoor/outdoor cats. I am very satisfied with this flap. In fact, this is my second one. The "mechanism" on the old one snapped when my fat-cat came shooting through the door in a panic. It is very versatile. It can be open for both entering and exiting, or either entering or exiting only. I have successfully used it all three ways. I like the hard plastic flap, as opposed to the soft/flexible flap. I think it is a little more energy efficient, as much as a pet door can be.

We installed this door 5 years ago for our 8 cats to use. It has worked beautifully for them. Some use it mpre easily than others but they all use it nonetheless. It finally died when our "too fat for the door" cat got tired of waiting for us to open the patio sliding door for him and came crashing through the cat door bringing the flap and its frame with him. A small plastic bit broke which made the door less secure so we are replacing it. It is an excellent door and I am back for another.
