I ordered this door to install myself.

The installation requires some knowledge of carpentry as you have to cut through the wall.
The door itself is perfect and easy to install once you cut the dimensions into the wall. My 2 dogs that previously rang a bell hanging on a rope to be let out, learned very quickly to use it. The double flap keeps the cold air out even in march in new jersey. I would not recommend this sized for a large dog such as a golden retriever or a dog of similar size. get a taller wider door for such a pet. My dogs are 25 pounds and 19 pounds and it is perfect, a beagle and a jack russel terrier.

It comes with a solid slide in stop if you choose to lock the opening either from the outside or inside.

I recommend this product. after much research this was the best value for money.
Here is a little help if you are going to do it yourself.

A-It fits between 2 wall studs that are 16inches apart.
B-use a stud finder to determine where the studs are inside the wall.
C-make sure that there are no wires or pipes in that area. you can cut a small hole and check.
D-Make sure that the bottom of your hole is high enough above the grass, ground or deck so that water or rain will not come in when it accumulates in the area.
E-Mark the hole to be cut with the cut out paper they provide.
F- Cut the sheet rock with a small sheetrock saw make the cut slightly larger that the paper cut out so it will fit easily.
G-Remove the sheetrock and the insulation inside the wall. wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves for this part.
H-Drill holes on the exterior wall plywood corners fron the inside of your house.
I-Connect the holes outside with a marker, pencil.

Pros: Great weather seal. Easy Install. Less Cleaning.
Cons: One dog hesitates going through the double door.

I purchased this dog door when I was fixing up my house. It was highly recommended by a friend who was a contractor.

Previously, I had modified a Petsafe in-door dog door to go through the wall and was having problems with bees and outside air.

This unit did not need any modifications to go through the wall. I did not need to trim the wall hole on the outside or inside. It went in like a dream.

The new door has an inside and an outside seal. I do not have air loss when the door is closed. The plastic doors do not show all the dog drool and slobber like the old door.

The dog door also has an internal lock. I didn't think that this was very useful, until I was reading the paper about kids breaking into to homes through dog doors. I have since used the lock feature.

Our golden retriever uses it without any hesitation. I am not even sure that he can tell the difference. My whippet is a little more cautious when using the new door. It is really two doors in one unit. She does not mind the first door, but is bugged by the second one. But, she still uses the door.

Next on the dog upgrade list is a covering over the kennel.

You'll see positive and negative reviews on this product. Let's face it - it's an economy wall door. That said - it can work very well. Regardless of your installation - make sure to frame around all 4 sides so that when your pet steps onto the base, it doesn't flex. The sides and top benefit well for what I am about to share... My petite 3 year old pit at 75 pounds was so proud of her new door that she was running back and forth in and out. She got VERY excited with her new entry. On one run, the inside frame fell off the wall - or rather followed her around the room. #1 - don't use the flimsy self threading screws supplied. Get larger ones with washers. #2 - I added screws inside the tunnel of the exterior and interior pieces, on both sides, top and bottom, both front and rear for a total of 8 additional screws to hold the system in place. I DARE my dog to remove this now! So yes, it's not all aluminum - but it's also not $400. With a bit of ingenuity - you've got a great doggie door. Oh, and as for the seam where the front and rear sections overlap in the tunnel - use some silicone to keep any weather from penetrating into your walls. I also did a bead of caulk around the outside and put a piece of flashing above to deflect direct rain. I'm going to cut a small piece of carpet to put on the floor in the tunnel. The dogs like their welcome mat outside, and now I don't have any more wet spots on my carpet. So 4 STARS - if you install correctly !!!

I bought the large Wall Entry Aluminum Pet Door August 2011. It was made in Mexico. Perhaps previous versions were different. Do not buy this unless you have no other options or can verify that is does not suffer from the same design flaws I encountered.

    1) FLIMSY: As others have mentioned the majority of the product is a very flimsy plastic. The only aluminum is the frame around the flap. The aluminum frame is screwed to the flimsy plastic, the flimsy plastic is screwed to your house.
    - Like another reviewer, I had mine crack during assembly.
    - Unlike the regular door versions of PetSafe products, putting the solid partition in will not secure your house from entry. A kick would easily separate the "locked" aluminum frame from the plastic one.
    - You most definitely want to fully support the bottom of the tunnel- listed as "optional" in instructions. You will need some scrap 2x4 for this.

    2) Look closely at the picture. Note that at the corners of juncture with the aluminum frame, the plastic tunnel bulges outward. Not only are the corner bulges ignored in the template you use for cutting, but they are also 1/2 inch unsealed openings! The outer opening LOOKS like it is covered by the aluminum frame. But the frame has a hollow core and it is open at the top and bottom. Net result is 4 "L" shaped air tunnels that lead from the outside, through the pet tunnel, and then through matching openings on the inside of your house. This completely defeats the purpose of dual flaps.
    - To mount the doors, you will need to drill holes in each corner of the cutting template OUTSIDE the lines provided.
    - To block the holes, you will need a good caulk.

The flaps themselves appear to be as sturdy as the PetSafe door versions, with the same magnetic closures and fairly transparent flaps.
