I have two large dog beds that have a heavy canvas cover. I ordered the PetSafe warmer & a K&H pet bed warmer at the same time and put one of each in the pet beds and put the beds next to each other.
The K&H pet bed warmer did a better job of warming through the canvas cover & 1 of my dogs spent quite a bit of time sleeping on that bed (sprawled). The bed with the PetSafe warmer got sporadic use & I had to really lean into the bed to feel the PetSafe's warmth.
If my dog hadn't chewed up the cord, I would have returned the PetSafe & gotten another K&H.

If you are looking for something that will provide continuous, comfortable warmth for your pet's indoor bed, then I highly recommend that PetSafe Universal Pet Bed Warmer. It's a tight fit in my cat's "donut" bed, and I have to keep a small towel on top of it so she has a soft surface to lay on, but it does the trick. I've left it plugged in pretty much 24/7 this winter, and it is still putting out consistent, low-level heat.

The people complaining about this item not being warm enough are probably comparing it to an electric heating pad meant for human use. A higher temperature that's comfortable for us would be too hot for cats and small dogs and could end up hurting them. While this bed warmer doesn't put out enough heat to use outdoors, it works well for indoor cat and small dog beds.

I my cats love this pad! Two of them are always jockying for the best position on the pad, with one trying nudging the other off if they can get away with it.

This is an ideal gift for someone with older cats or dogs, but all kitties would love it. It's like that perfect sunbeam warming the floor. Best spot in the house!

This is the best pet warmer I've ever used! I LOVE IT! It easily fits into my rat terrier's favorite bed and she snuggles into it whenever she can, especially now since the weather has turned cool-ish. I've tried other pet warmers, but this one is the best and safest I've seen. It doesn't use alot of power either since it's low voltage. Perfect now especially since electricity and gas bills are so high now.

I totally recommend this warmer to anyone with a dog or cat. I haven't tried to clean it yet, but I think it will be really easy since the heater is wrapped up in vinyl.

You got to give it a try. I would never have known how much my pup loves this if I didn't see it for myself every day.

My cat was a stray who found me eight months ago. Due to forces beyond my control, she has to remain an outside pet. When the weather turned cold, I worried that her cat bed wasn't up to keeping her comfortable. The bed warmer heats exactly like an ordinary heating pad on medium strength. The bed with warmer placed inside a medium sized Rubbermaid storage box with an entry hole cut into the narrow side, reserves the heat from the pad and her body perfectly. On nights when the temperature drops into the high teens, she stays comfortable and warm.

I have three cats and they love this product. There is a cat on this pad at all times of the day and sometimes there are even multiple cats on it, fighting for it. They use it all year round, even in the summer. It seems to be very durable, and it's safe enough to leave plugged in for long periods of time. I highly recommend it.

My dog thinks he's a human and humans don't like to be cold. That's why I bought him this bed warmer. Also, I didn't want to buy a whole new bed, so this unit is great. It just sticks into his existing bed and keeps it warm. I was concerned with safety and leaving this thing on for long periods of time, but I looked at the sturdy construction vs the competition and this one looked a lot better. I would definitely recommend this for dogs who rule the household.

I bought this bed warmer three months ago for our 16 year-old calico cat. She's pretty old now and needs that "extra help" keeping warm. This PetSafe Universal Bed Warmer has been her constant comfort. She's in this bed almost constantly, whereas, she previously would search the house trying to find the warmest spot to nap. The Warmer has kept a steady, constant temperature. It is unobtrusive and has given us no trouble at all. I highly recommend it. She's never tried to chew the power cord - she's old enough to not care - so I cannot comment about how well it holds up against "chewers".

Works very very well. We have multiple cats. Two of them are fighting for the pad. One would be sleeping on top of it and the other cat would be standing right next to it until the other cat get off for water or food. So we bough two! They love it!

A safe way to keep my elderly cat warm this winter, and at a good price, too. She loves it!
