5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to anyone's cookbook collection!
This is the newest addition to several cookbooks offered by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). (Others include "The Compassionate Cook" and "Cooking With PETA.") 3.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to vegan cuisine / Not so comprehensive
Stunningly designed - this book is a great introduction to vegan cuisine. There is a great assortment of recipes, many of which are easy to prepare. While I enjoyed the flashy design - I wonder if the amount of recipes inside makes it worth the price. A better choice might be PETA's earlier cookbook "The Compassionate Cook" - it doesn't have pictures but...

This is the newest addition to several cookbooks offered by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). (Others include "The Compassionate Cook" and "Cooking With PETA.") This will make an excellent cookbook for you and anyone you know who is vegetarian or vegan, or aspiring to be. There are personal quotes from each of the celebrities who contributed a recipe or recipes, including Alec Baldwin, Paul McCartney, Montel Williams, Jackie Chan, Bob Barker and Bill Goldberg. Each quote proves that these celebrities are not empty-headed morons as some people have suggested that celebrities are; rather, these celebrities are intelligent, caring, kind and compassionate humans who are trying to make a positive contribution to the world. The quality of the book itself is excellent, with full-color photographs and glossy pages, and the recipes are all healthful, nutritious and very tasty. Some of our favorites include Tofu French Toast, Chan's Corn Chowder, Savory Italian Bruschetta, Masala Potatoes, Miami Blues Red Beans with Garlic, Heroic Shepherd's Pie, Berkley's EZ BBQ Chickpeas, Feel Good Kentucky Fried Chic-Kett, All Star Chili, Legendary Chickpea Stew, Big City Cashew-Chili, Spicy and Lean Black Bean Chili, Low-Fat Super Savory Asian Forest Curry, Hip Hoppin' John, Baby-Get-Back "Ribs", Mama's Mock "Meatloaf", Heart-Healthy Wild Rice with Walnuts and Raisins, The Sweetest Truffles, Applesauce Cake, Melt in Your Mouth Yellow Cake, Tantalizing Trifle, Sublime Key Lime Pie, Berry Delicious Tangy Sorbet, Cosmic Carrot Cake with Frosting, Choco-Gingerbread Cookies and Flaky Pie Crust Dough. And we are just starting! All of the recipes are simple and easy to make, with ingredients already on hand in most kitchens. And best of all, all of them are cruelty-free and 100% vegan! Enjoy. It is well worth the low price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any animal rights supporter., April 11, 2005

This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
Now this isn't my favorite vegan cookbook. And to be honest almost all these recipes can be found on the peta website. But I think it is a classic. I use the book once in awhile, but once I do a recipe i can pretty much wing it (except the desserts) This is a book you should get because it is helping support peta. It also has bios from vegetarian celebrities with pictures and how they became vegetarian. It would actually be a really good coffee table book. I haven't had any trouble with the book falling apart, but because it doesn't have many recipes (less than 80) it isn't my most used cookbook. All the recipes are very simple with easy ingredients to find. I think this cookbook is a must!

Stunningly designed - this book is a great introduction to vegan cuisine. There is a great assortment of recipes, many of which are easy to prepare. While I enjoyed the flashy design - I wonder if the amount of recipes inside makes it worth the price. A better choice might be PETA's earlier cookbook "The Compassionate Cook" - it doesn't have pictures but there are far more recipes which are easy to prepare and it's sure to become a book that you'll rely on daily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative recipes, beautifully designed, January 23, 2003
This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
Amongst all the veggie cookbooks I own, this one ranks as the loveliest, both in terms of design and quality and innovativeness of recipes. This book is beautifully compiled, both insofar as cooking and style. The photography is superb, the recipes are terrific (try Exotic Orange Curry and Portobello Passion), its well-written. You'll feel healthier even if you just "read" it. Beautiful enough to be a coffee table book!! Even better if you cook from it!!!

Compiled by Ingrid Newkirk and enhanced throughout with full-color and b/w photography, The PETA Celebrity Cookbook showcases more than sixty celebrities, athletes, chefs, and activists who share their four-star, cruelty-free, palate pleasing, vegetarian recipes. 4.0 out of 5 stars More than just a collection of recipes, May 26, 2003
This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
The PETA Celebrity Cookbook is more than a collection of recipes, it is an entertaining cookbook filled with color photographs of various actors, musicians, and other well-known people, along with their recipes. Featured throughout the book are interesting and informative "Did you know?" facts about vegetarianism, health, and the environment.

Some of the celebrity recipes featured include: Tiffani Thiessen's Mediterranean Muesli, Jackie Chan's Eggplant "Steaks," Chrissie Hynde's Zesty Blueberry Poppyseed Cupcakes, Sir Paul McCartney's "All You Need is Avocado" Soup, Bob Barker's Savory Italian Bruschetta, Alicia Silverstone's Steamy, Creamy Artichoke Dip, and Montel Williams's Heart-Healthy Wild Rice with Walnuts and Raisins. Recipes are divided into sections for breakfasts, lunches, appetizers, side dishes, entrees, and desserts.

This book also doubles as a book of quotations. An introduction by James Cromwell, and sections on "How This Book May Save Your Life" by Dr. Neal Barnard and "Animal-Friendly Grocery Shopping" complement the recipes, facts, and quotations. The PETA Celebrity Cookbook is a fun book with compassionate, nutritious recipes and more. --reviewed by N. Glenn Perrett

3.0 out of 5 stars Great pictures and quotes, long ingredient lists, May 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
Looking for a good vegan cookbook and totally loving PETA, I jumped at this book as soon as I found it. It arrived and I was very excited to get it! However, I also was very disappointed. There are great pictures in here and I loved the quotes and quick facts, but as for being an everyday cookbook that I'd use...not so sure about that. The ingredient lists are very long and I just couldn't imagine my family eating this food. But I would imagine it being a good cookbook for a fancy get together. So it really just depends on what you're looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Recipes For A Healthy Lifestyle, April 13, 2004
By
A. Vegan (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
I love this book! There are so many tantalizing recipes to try. The other great thing about this book is that celebrities who are either vegan or vegetarian contributed to make this book. I'm sure that when you see pictures of some people like Bill Goldberg - a WWF Wrestler, you'll be surprised. Vegetarianism is no longer a topic to shy away from. Millions of people are changing their lives for the better and cutting out animal products from their diets. Now when someone asks you just what exactly do you eat... you'll be able to brag about the divine desserts and mouth watering entrees that are all animal free! Do your body & the animals a favor and buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicous Recipes, December 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Peta Celebrity Cookbook (P) (Paperback)
The Peta Celebrity Cookbook is a colorful cookbook, 100+ pages of recipes. They've got recipes from appetizers through desserts.

The recipes are from vegan and vegetarian celebrities, and are they REALLY DELICIOUS! I've tried Russell Simmons' "meat"loaf, Kevin Nealon's sweet roasted root veggies, and this PETA lady's Shepherd's Pie. WOW, my family (including a finicky toddler) loved them all.

These recipes are so great, you won't regret getting this cookbook. I've gotten rid of most of my cookbooks over the years, but this one is a total keeper.
