Lets clear up any misconceptions,
By
This review is from: Peta Files: The Dark Side of the Animal Rights Movement (Paperback)
PETA is a very controversial "animal rights" group. Please, do not mistake them for true animal lovers, who form groups that truly strive to protect and save animals, unlike PETA who strives to euthanize (murder) cats and dogs.
The PETA policy makers are, in my view, hypocrites. PETA members are generally good people. They just dont know the horror and the doublespeak that the PETA heads partake in. PETA claims to want to treat animals "ethically" and then proceeds to murder them.In recent years, their kill rate has been 97%. Murder is "ethical"? Maybe to PETA and OJ Simpson, but not to the rest of us. Killing 97% of the animals who come into your care and calling yourselves "animal lovers" is like killing someone because of their race while calling yourself a humanitarian. Pure B.S. 100% B.S. There ARE true animal loving groups who strive to save (and do) animals. Groups like Best Friends Animal Society (www.bestfriends.org), The No-Kill Advocacy Center's leader Nathan Winograd (www.nathanwinograd.com), North Shore Animal League America (www.nsalamerica.org) are just a few of the groups who truly save precious animals. So, please do not stereotype animal welfare groups based on PETA's "performance". Most animal welfare groups are as horrified by PETA as the rest of us are. So, dont buy the political spin that some take part in, which tells us that all animal lovers are violent, spray paint holding, terrorists. nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, if you have a heart so compassionate that you dedicate your life to saving precious four-legged souls, you are indeed a loving, caring, peaceful, kind hearted person. And 99% of animal lovers are this way. If you despise PETA, join the club. But dont lump in animal loving, life-revering, peaceful organizations who are saving precious souls who deserve love, respect and life, just as much as the rest of us, with the animal killers at PETA. They are two seperate things. Want to read a great book? Please read "Redemption" by Nathan Winograd. It exposes the myths that allows society to murder precious four-legged souls. It challenges us to overcome our lethal mediocrity, and asks us to achieve no-kill greatness. May America someday evolve into a no-kill nation.

Read it for yourself,

I should just let the original review stand as an example of irony. To employ phoney typed German accent and then accuse the book of "bigotry" is an entertaining bit of self mockery. But in case any of you missed the nice little sign the guy was holding up saying "mind closed, nothing I don't already know is true", you might want to look past the first review and check the book for yourself. But, since the writer didn't talk about the book I will: It's a quick read full of verifiable facts about the darker side of the animal rights movement. Want to believe the self mocking reviewer that such a side doesn't exist? Get the book and decide for yourself. ELF, Animal Liberation Front, these groups have destroyed businesses and endangered human life (Rainier bank building, DFW facility attacks, the Urban horticulture center) and their agenda is about a lot more then saving fluffy bunnies. Check it out; PETA files is a good read.

The truth always hurts....,
This review is from: Peta Files: The Dark Side of the Animal Rights Movement (Paperback)
There should be more authors/people like Mr. Workman...bravo to him for this telling expose! Far too many people are confusing "animal rights" with animal welfare" and Workman, like the good traditional warrior that he is, does his homework with a book based on facts: not on the Arista's radical, left-wing propoganda! You know you've touched a nerve when the AR supporters get mad when they read your book...well done...Mr Workman!!

Empty Speculation,

Appears to be written by someone with an absolute vested interest in tearing PETA down. It's unfortunate that instead of answering PETA's campaigns they have to resort to character assassination which is completely untrue.

It's about time someone exposed the truth behind PETA. They have such support among celebrities, and have such a slick propaganda machines they've become a million dollar organization -- with few skeptics. Here' some healthy skepticism for thinking minds.

The bottom line: What's wrong with caring for all beings on this planet? Before you chow down on that drumstick, think good and hard about where it came from.
Have some mercy people and for once, think beyond yourself!

In one word: disappointment,
By G.T. (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peta Files: The Dark Side of the Animal Rights Movement (Paperback)
I had heard about this book and it was a recommended read by a few people (animal rights people). I was a PETA supporter, but often heard criticism, some based on unbelievable lies and some based on truth. I was hoping to find out more about the truthful claims, more so why some animal rights people themselves don't agree with PETA. But that's not what I found. I found the same worthless stuff that was alleged on Penn & Teller.
It was as though the author was not only anti-ALF (Animal Liberation Front), but wrote about them and replaced every "ALF" with "PETA." These are not the same organizations, and the guy lost his credibility with me this way. I know too much about the two organizations to believe what he said. PETA doesn't liberate animals; the ALF does. PETA doesn't commit arson; the ALF does. PETA's connections with the ALF are essentially that the ALF will send PETA footage so it can be distributed, viewed, and used for campaigns. And though PETA's stance on the euthanization of animal companions is that it's preferable to no-kill shelters, they don't euthanize animals themselves. I wanted an objective view of PETA. But that's not what I got. I think, if you read this book, it's important to read others. And if you decide anyhow you don't like PETA, they should not discredit the entire animal rights movements. And I understand that parts of PETA's philosophy may contradict other animal rights group's. That's part of a social movement - everyone has different views, and that is embodied in the different organizations. I wish he had tried to be objective. But when he goes on to imply that animal rights people, as opposed to animal welfare people, don't actually care about animals' well-being is unequivocally false. Animal welfarists want to preserve inherently abusive practices but better the conditions. Animal rights-ists want to abolish the entire practice, thereby guaranteeing the BEST, TRUE welfare of animals. After reading this book, I still support PETA. I think the fact that they are the largest animal rights organization, receive underground material from the ALF, and used media attention to get public support makes them the target of such biased criticism. They could be saintly, and this stuff would still be said. If you want people's ill opinions of PETA, go ahead. Just don't get the book; you can find it on the Internet.

Look at the facts,
This review is from: Peta Files: The Dark Side of the Animal Rights Movement (Paperback)
Dave Workman proves and documents every assertion that he makes against PETA. Also, he uses material that can easily be verified on the net. I've actually read the book, too. PETA has been paying for the legal defense of terrorists and giving money to them and their families directly. This is a fact that can be verified over and over again. There is more than enough proof that PETA should be dismantled and its principals jailed.

I note, also with interest, that none of the detracting "reviewers" had the gumption to put a name/address to their missives.
Worth thinking about, given the revelations in Workman's book. Read and ponder, for the open minded, it will be worth the effort. -------- It is interesting to note that the star rating on this book has been heavily stacked by supporters of PETA. It is even more important to note that these selfsame "reviewers" (A questionable term, as the writers seem more engaged in preaching rather than reviewing) all urge open-mindedness while reading THEIR recommendations, the very attribute they failed to exercise in reading 'PETA Files.' Workman presents an array of well researched data, along with statements made by the principals of PETA and other such groups. These statements are often in contradiction of others made by the same people/organizations, and certainly in contradiction of exhibited behavior by said groups. The single most important (to my mind) point made in the books is the distinction between an "Animal Rights" group and an "Animal Welfare" organization. It is clear that, at the very bottom line, the "Animal Rights" crowd has zero concern for the actual well being of animals. Dave isn't writing a Clancy thriller, he's making a report based on FACT. The complaints about "writing style," "piece of garbage," "lies, bigotry and slander [sic]" and the blatant hatred shown in the reviews is more telling of the attitudes of PETA (and associates) than anything that might be printed in Workman's book. Even more telling for those who complained about the quality of writing are the errors in spelling, grammar and general ignorance of the language displayed by such "reviewers." I recommend the book to anyone who prefers fact over hyperbole.

Looking over amazon, I find that the review sections of any books that deal with animals are usually totally overrun by animal rights extremists promoting their own peculiar agendas. The low marks for this book are totally uncalled for. This is a thoughtful book that brings to light many things that the mainstream media has chosen to ignore.
Recent events have proven that PETA prefers to kill animals rather than to find them good homes which certainly validates the opinions expressed in this book. |
