This 2nd Pete 'Conde' Rodriguez solo album, released in 1976 is an UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC AND SENSATIONAL album of the HIGHEST order!
It's SUPERB and contains 2 Curet Alonso SUPER-CLASSIC hits that straight away identify people to Pete Conde which are nor more nor less than Catalina La O and Pueblo Latino ('Pa'vivir asi, prefiero la muerte!')
Song which he also recorded previously with Fania All Stars on the 'Live At Yankee Stadium Vol.2' Cd, also available remastered...

Please do not think that this is a 2-song Cd, as the 2nd tune La Abolición is also fantastically good in terms of music, arrangements, and lyrical content, saying that if the abolition of slavery has ended, the black man hasn't "enjoyed it" yet, meaning that despite the abolition, racism and social exclusion carries on for black people...
This is definitely a topic that Pete Conde felt strong about, not only because he sang quite a few songs about it, but also because apparently, he has lived in N.Y just where a 'separation line' between a white man's area and black man's area was to be...
(That's, anyway, what I understood from the liner notes of this Cd...)

Then, the song Se Vende Un Corazón, which isn't too musical, but nonetheless SUPERB, features AGAIN, great vocals from Pete Conde, another Nelson González Tres-Guitar solo and an AMAZING Trumpet solo which I suspect is from Victor Páz.
Great Tune, and the lyric talks about how 'dark' people's hearts can be...


THEN! WE'RE IN FOR A REAL TREAT, PEOPLE, AS THE BEST PART OF THE ALBUM IS ABOUT TO BEGIN WITH SIDE B! WOW!
What a way to begin with SUCH a standout track like Sentimiento ('la falta de sentimiento!') The track, AGAIN, BURNS, the arrangements are FANTASTIC, and then, would you believe!!??
Even better is to come with Tumbakutún (Ayé-ayé!). I'm running out of words... (I am just reviewing this album to inform you buyers of how GREAT it is, and also because it MORE than deserves an EXCELLENT review!...)

Then, to "sort of" cool things down a bit, we get the other CLASSIC Pete Conde HIT Pueblo Latino (which contains a positive message encouraging Latino Unity everywhere, wherever it is, [but we still haven't learned from this, except for those "red" Left-wing extremists that we have now, that are trying to attempt to dominate South-America...)

Anyway, the song Guaguancó De Amor, is a very pleasant, and more easy going sort of song that is good to finish off an album like this one, which by now, is already WAY ABOVE boiling point!...

Apart from 2 Boleros, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find ONE bad track on this Cd!
We get 7 tracks of VERY good length (all written by the great Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso, who unfortunately passed away about 4 years ago, may he Rest In Peace...)

All this marvel where Curet Alonso highly contributed yields up to no less than 35 minutes of great music! DEFINITELY WORTH YOUR MONEY...

GET THIS ALBUM FIRST!!!
But then make sure you get the follow up from 1977 Pete Conde Rodriguez A Touch Of Class which is also SUPERB (although not available remastered YET), and the follow up from 1979 Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez Soy La Ley which is also VERY enjoyable and is now available remastered, but bear in mind that no Pete Conde Rodríguez album is better than this one, as this one's almost impossible to beat!...)
His 1st solo album from 1974 is definitely enjoyable (now available remastered too), but I'm not quite sure about 1982's Fiesta Con El Conde album (which isn't available yet) and 1990's Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez El Rey Cd (now available remastered) which I have on LP and is quite nice, although a bit musically romantic, well it's 1990....


I rate ANYONE who says that this album is not of their taste, to hear this remastered-sound's edition!

IF YOU FEEL LIKE WANTING TO START WITH ONE OF P.R. GREATEST SONEROS OF THE 70's SALSA SCENE (APART FROM CHEO & H. LAVOE) = YOU'VE GOT TO GET THIS ONE.
EL CONDE SHINES ALL THROUGH THE ALBUM!!

A COMPLETE ALBUM WITH COMPLETE VARIOUS RYTHMNS EXECUTED & ARRANGED BY REAL AND GIFTED MUSICIANS.

The late great Pete "Conde" Rodriguez was probably the most soulful Salsa sonero of all time and this was his best album. Featuring the huge hits "Catalina La O", "Pueblo Latino" and "Sentimiento" it is rightly regarded as a true masterpiece of '70s Salsa. Originally issued in 1976 and produced by Louie Ramirez.
