5.0 out of 5 stars Soaring Blues and Boogie-Woogie piano music, November 27, 2000

This review is from: Pete Johnson 1938 1939 (Audio CD)
The music of Pete Johnson really stood the test of time. His playing has a warmth that is still enjoyable today. This compilation reflects the genius of that Blues and Boogie-Woogie piano master. The presence of Big Joe Turner on six of the twenty cuts is a gift. There's also six excellent piano solos. Count Basie idolized Pete Johnson and Fats Waller for their piano playing. This is a highly recommendable CD of Kansas City brand of Blues.
