5.0 out of 5 stars Just what my old dog needed!
We have a 15 year-old Lab with advanced arthritis. He was having considerable difficulty walking on our tile and hardwood floors, so I ordered these socks. What a difference! They give him just enough traction to make walking and standing much easier, plus they help keep his poor old feet warm.

The socks stay on very well and we have not had the 'rolling'...

So here is my official review on these dog socks. As far a quality is concerned, I would rate them around four stars. They are exactly like people or baby socks. They've got plenty of elasticity, are sewn pretty well without frayed edges, and have reinforced toes. But as far as functionality is concerned, I rate them 2.5 or 3 stars. Our 17 1/2 year old Gilligan definitely needs something to help him gain some traction on our wood floors, and for the first few minutes of him wearing these, they worked great...just as they are supposed to. He walked around without slipping whatsoever and moved around like a dog of maybe 10 or 12 years old instead. Unfortunately, after he paced around the house for awhile, from our wood floors onto the carpet and back onto the wood floors again, the socks began to flip themselves over so that in a very short time, the little traction part was sitting on the top of his knuckles instead of underneath his paw pads, rendering them practically useless because then he continued to slip and slide all over the wood again. After wearing these for less than 20 minutes, almost certainly one or two of them eventually will fall off somewhere. I feel this is more due to the fact that Gilligan walks and stands with his feet slightly pushed out on an A-line from his frame rather than a defect in the socks. Putting them on him was a bit of hassle by myself...he felt the need to kick me and pull his paws back as I tried to do it, but it was MUCH easier with my husband holding him and his paws and me just slipping them on. Gilligan doesn't have very long or sharp nails but in my estimation a dog that does would rip a nice hole through the toes of these socks in no time. And, these socks are not meant for outside. They would get filthy in an instant.

After trying these for a day or so, I had a revelation. I decided to use his two socks from his front paws and double them up on his back paws, and lo and behold they stayed on even with Gilligan trying to kick them off by rubbing his feet on the carpet. Also by doing this, it also took them MUCH longer to twist over. And, being doubled up they were much easier to put on his paws. So if $$ isn't an issue and your little guy really needs the traction help, I highly recommend purchasing two sets of socks and doubling them up.

For Gilligan we purchased size SMALL, and they fit him perfectly. Since the retailers have done a terrible job of providing sizing information on these socks (they don't even give a size chart on the Pet Ego website or on the packaging), here are the measurements of the socks and of Gilligan's paw to help anyone out there make their decision with sizing. The SMALL socks are 3" in length and 1.25" across unstretched, and these socks stretch a fair amount. The length of Gilligan's paw, from the tip of his longest nail to the end of his large pad, is roughly 2". I will add some photos of the socks (in the blue color) measured next to a quarter, Gil's paw, and a picture of him enjoying his few minutes of traction. Oh, and please note, in the picture he is wearing his homemade onesie that I made for him due to the fact that he had a horrible staph infection on his back this summer, which took off a 3" wide, 12" long strip of skin. His onesie protects his tissue-thin skin now and allows him to go through the doggie door without getting blisters. Gilligan is a terrier mix and weighs about 17lbs. And yes, he only has one eye.

I think at the craft store you can buy the non-skid paint, or something similar to it, that they use on the bottom of these socks. My solution is to get some, add it all the way around the paw area (so that when it flips over it won't matter), and sew a small strip of velcro around the ankle part to help keep them up better. If that doesn't work, I will be making my own...out of SOMETHING.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total RIP OFF - DO NOT BUY, August 26, 2010
I bought a set of these for my elderly dog - and this is a joke. The size matrix listed Labrador as medium, which I ordered. The socks came and the medium is barely large enough to fit my cat - and the actual no-skid area is 1" x 1-1/2", which is not nearly adequate to fit a large dog, such as a Labrador retriever. The return policy states that the socks needs to be returned with the packaging unbroken, which is impossible since in order to see if they work and expand the packaging needs to be broken - AND - the anti skid pads cannot be viewed unless you do open the package.

We have a 15 year-old Lab with advanced arthritis. He was having considerable difficulty walking on our tile and hardwood floors, so I ordered these socks. What a difference! They give him just enough traction to make walking and standing much easier, plus they help keep his poor old feet warm.

The socks stay on very well and we have not had the 'rolling' problem some other commenters noted. Measure your dog's paws and order accordingly. THE SOCKS LOOK VERY SMALL when you open the package; they are meant to stretch and they do! The size large socks didn't look like they would fit our boy, but they are perfect - and they do NOT roll around on his paws. They go through the wash well, too. I will be ordering another set so we always have a clean one.

I first saw these in a pet-themed catalog at a MUCH higher price and was thrilled to find them at an Amazon price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute & What I Needed For My Chihuahua, October 13, 2010
By
I bought these in a SMALL for my chihuahua, mainly to keep her paws protected when she is outside
They are cute
I added a photo of her in her socks
I was going to order an XS because her feet are so small, but reading the other reviewer I got a size up..
They fit perfectly on her front paws and the back paws they start to fall down a little but not all the way off.
The little traction on the bottom actually helps her from slipping
Took her a little time to get used to walking in them

1.0 out of 5 stars awful!, December 27, 2010

I have a three legged older Pitt, and bought these to help him gain some control on our hardwood floors... what a mistake!! A totally a waste of money. You have to open the package to see if they even fit (but then you cant return them) and the area of "traction" is so small it's totally useless, and if the socks slide or twist at all, the dog ends up with less traction then he had without the socks because now its just slippery cloth under his paws. The large dont even kind of fit my Pitt's back paws, and the front ones fall off. Overall, a complete waste of money and a useless product.

5.0 out of 5 stars they work, November 29, 2011

got these despite some poor reviews I read....glad I did. I use them for my 14.5 year old Jack Russell whos back legs have a tendency to slip on my tile flooring and they really help him grip. They want to rotate a cm right or left but if you watch your dog the way I do that's no big deal, you just pull them up a little. He likes them when the flooring is cold as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible sizing chart!, July 21, 2011

I bought these for my boxer to wear when she visits my parents as they're very particular about doggy claws meeting cherry hardwood flooring. I read explanations of how to measure my pet's paws and other reviewers comments on sizing, finally settling on a large. The socks came and look like they'd be more appropriate for the dachshund next door -- they won't even open far enough to fit my dog's paws and she actually has slim paws and delicate ankles for a boxer. Beyond that, they are low quality sock fabric and the non-skid is really a joke as it's tiny and has little grab. Please, save your money and go to your local independent pet store for your dog socks and booties -- there are some great products out there, but this isn't one of them.

Tarzan (Our 4 yr. old dog) took them off within seconds. Refuses to wear them. When he sees them, he growls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!!, August 31, 2011

I have two miniature Schnauzers Oscar & Romee. Oscar is the larger end of the miniatures and Romee is the smaller end. I brought the pink in small for Romee and the grey in medium for Oscar and they are both very willing to wear them. They are easy to put on as long as your baby is willing! Romee wears them because she is scared to walk on floor boards. We have recently moved into a fully renovated home full of beautiful floor boards. We decided on the socks to both protect the floor boards and give both our babies the necessary confidence. They wash really well too. Hand wash in eucalyptus wool wash or Napisan and they come up fresh and new again.
They are perfect!! Thanks a million Amazon!!!
