I have been fortunate enough to obtain every biography in print and out of print on Mr. Peter Cushing. I even have audio cassettes of his autobiography narrated by Peter Cushing himself. I have studied his solo work and his Hammer years acting opposite his close friend and film advisary, Christopher Lee. As a child, I was always entertained by Mr. Cushing whether he be Van Helsing or Dr. Frankenstein. Of course, everyone will never forget Peter Cushing since he had a pivotal role in the original Star Wars (1977). When you look at his filmography you can see that not all of the roles he chose were in movies you would want to remember because of their poor production values or shoddy direction. The main quality that Peter Cushing had though was the fact that he even made Grade Z movies palatable to watch. He was never camp in his roles unless the characterization called for it. To me , he will be the only person to play Van Helsing perfectly as a heroic and intellectual person driven to rid the world of Dracula's evil. This biography touches on the highs and lows of his film, stage and tv career and life with never before seen photographs and letters of correspondence between him and the love of his life, Helen. This aspect of the book, his relationship with Helen, is explored in a sentimental way that makes you feel closer to the actor without being maudilin. Anyone who says they are a fan of Peter Cushing needs to purchase this book. Is this the perfect book? No book would be able to contain enough pages to fully cover Mr. Cushing's acting method for each role he undertook or his thoughts on the finished product. I was also lucky enough to speak with Mr. Cushing during the 1980s by transatlantic phone. He was just as gracious and kind as you would expect him to be in person. His passing was a great loss to the film and acting comminuty at large. Purchase this book and enjoy the history of a true kind soul known as Peter Cushing.

I ordered this book for my son, who loves the old horror movies, but after he finished reading it I read it too. This is an insight into a very gentle man who is far deeper than most of the roles that we know him for. We learn of his stage performances and how sought after he was. We learn how much he was devoted to his wife and how much she meant to him. This is certainly a book worth reading if you have ever wondered about Peter Cushing and his life outside of the movies. It is a very good read.

Have always been a fan of Mr. Cushing from the first time I saw him in The Curse of Frankenstein. It's a thrill to read over his early career, his insistence on his craft being done well, and the people and situations he found himself involved with while achieving perfection!

Not a review: Note that this is a revised edition of The Peter Cushing Companion first published in 2000. Some changes have been made to the text of the earlier edition and a large number of colour photographs have been added
