Amazon's web page says 'UNABRIDGED'. In fact it's a mono recording of Matthiessen reading from the Crystal Mountain section of the book.
It's a rare chance to hear Matthiessen reading from his wonderful book, although he's not a great reader.
Matthiessen has tended to disavow the Snow Leopard as a distraction from his more recent work. I remember seeing him speak at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco in 1992, and every question from the audience was about the Snow Leopard. He took three only, and then insisted on questions that were not about the Snow Leopard. So this tape is an interesting extra for Snow Leopard lovers like me, not the new access to the book I had hoped for.
