Book Description

TIM CURRY READS THE CLASSIC TALE!

"ALL CHILDREN, EXCEPT ONE, GROW UP."

And so begins the story of one of the most beloved characters in children's literature, Peter Pan. J.M. Barrie's classic tale, completely unabridged, features a boy who refuses to grow up, Tinker Bell the fairy, and the Darling children -- Wendy, John, and Michael. Their great adventure begins on the night that Peter flies into the Darling home looking for his shadow and teaches Wendy, John, and Michael how to fly with him back to the Neverland, where adventures happen every day.

Look for Tim Curry's brilliant reading of Geraldine McCaughrean's authorized sequel to Peter Pan: Peter Pan in Scarlet!

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

J.M. Barrie, the son of a weaver, was born near Dundee, Scotland, in 1860. He was a journalist and novelist and began writing for the stage in 1892. Peter Pan, first produced in London on December 27, 1904, was an immediate success. The story of Peter Pan first appeared in book form (titled Peter and Wendy, and later Peter Pan and Wendy) in 1911. Barrie died in 1937, bequeathing the copyright of Peter Pan to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, a hospital for children.

From AudioFile

For many of us, PETER PAN is one of those stories we know from popular culture but have never actually read. Now is the time to learn what a wonderful (and often adult) story it is. Tim Curry provides the perfect introduction with his rich voice, British accent, and tongue lodged firmly in cheek. He creates a magical world of pirates, fairies, dog-as-nanny, lost children, and the boy who never grows up. Curry develops distinctive voices for all the characters--Captain Hook is a particular delight--and employs an appropriately slow pace, making it feel as if he is reading us a bedtime story. 5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Pan read by Tim Curry, October 13, 2006
This review is from: Peter Pan (Audio CD)
This is a smashing new audio CD of the entire Peter Pan story by J.M. Barrie. It is so nice to see the whole story read out unabridged by Tim Curry. His voice is ideal for the listener and brought back so many great childhood memories for me. My kids loved it too. The artwork on the front cover is super too - the colours are so vibrant. Well done Simon & Schuster!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful revisit to the classic, March 22, 2008
This review is from: Peter Pan (Audio CD)
This is excellent. The whole Peter Pan story as it is unabridged and read by the wonderful Tim Curry. Tim Curry's reading brings the characters alive and gives different voices to the characters. He won an award for this reading and he deserved it. When listening to the cds, you think you are still a child and having the book read to you. This is the not the Disney version, but the way J. M. Barrie wrote the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Find Peter Pan with a different reader, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Peter Pan (Audio CD)
Tim Curry is a great actor, but he does not shine in this audiobook. He is never lively or fun in this, but instead intones each word ominously. He is not very good at doing different voices, and is particularly unskilled at female voices.
There are other unabridged versions of Peter Pan on audiobooks -- I encourage you to find a different reader if you and your children want to really enjoy the book.
