Engrossing series, December 31, 2004
This review is from: Peter Pan & the Pirates - Hook's Deadly Game, Part 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Even though this series little resembled Disney's animated movie with regard to Peter's physical apperance (most kids are introduced to Peter Pan in 'modern' American culture through Walt Disney)it was probally closer to J.M. Barrie's original depiction than the earlier Disney title.
Debuting when the networks still did afternoon cartoon shows for kids, this series had just the right mix of adventure and drama to keep people of all ages interested. Consequently, they were able to perform story arcs without becoming too far-flung or 'soapy', a tragedy which obviously befalls many a live action series.
Then in junior high, I was technically aging out of many cartoons--but still found this series a nice piece of escapism from my then mundane routines.
Years later (again, when the afternoon network schedule dropped most cartoons) I thought I had imagined this series. Although it is not one of my overwhelming favirotes, I would encourage people wanting something above the standard kids fare (on both broadcast and cable) to pick up this series. The attention to animation and rich color palette will not disappoint the senses.
