5.0 out of 5 stars Around The Campfire
This is a great songbook for PPM fans who play beginner/intermediate guitar. The arrangements are easy to follow (not a lot of barre chords) and not a lot of Eb--Bb7 stuff. There's even some tablature to songs like Blowin' In the Wind. The book has the same songs as the CD set with the same name. I really enjoy this book. Mike

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Not Useful in Kindle Format
This is a wonderful collection of songs but is not useful if purchased in Kindle format. I suppose it is due to the limitations of Kindle but the pages look as though a letter size PDF has been shrunk to fit into the Kindle screen. 4.0 out of 5 stars PPM - The best book I have seen, yet., October 14, 2009

I have been a PPM fan since the early 60s. I have played the guitar since I was 14 and I am now 64.

For a long time, the only way to really understand how this group played their music was to go to their concerts, get a front row seat, and really watch them closely. There were no good books.

Nowadays, getting factual information on how to play PPM's stuff is still really tough. As a previous reviewer has commented, there is some material but it seems the authors did not really know what amateur fans wanted ( Keys of Eb and F# - gag). This book is not like that. It's the best I have seen, so far.

All the material in this book passes the sanity test. It makes sense. It tells you how to chord the songs in "normal people" keys, and then goes on to tell you where to put your capo if you want to do it in the same key as PPM.

The only criticism I might offer is that it still does not go as thoroughly as I wish. I would like to see lots more notation and/or tablature for exact picking patterns and strums that they used. I would like to see who sang what and how. I would like to see the different guitar parts.

I feel PPM are an important part of American History. In the Viet Nam war, you could take your precious few moments of quietness and listen to them on the radio and you would be temporarily removed from the atrocities and miseries.

We need to remember this group.

Hey - Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow, why not get with Happy Traum and the Homespun tape people and make a DVD like George Grove did for the Kingston Trio. DVD-Banjo Arrangements of The Kingston Trio

A lot of people ( me included) would be grateful.

I love Peter Paul and Mary music and song style. This book is such a great reflection on their music and it's has guitar chords too. If you want a good collection of PPM songs, this book is well worth your purchase price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Not Useful in Kindle Format, January 31, 2011

This is a wonderful collection of songs but is not useful if purchased in Kindle format. I suppose it is due to the limitations of Kindle but the pages look as though a letter size PDF has been shrunk to fit into the Kindle screen. This makes the page too small for one to read the notes, chords, and lyrics. Fiddle as you will with the Kindle display settings, the largest display one can select is still too small to do the page justice. A magnifying lens does help to increase the size of the text but then it is too blurry. I purchased this edition because I needed to perform Noel's song "Inside" for my son's school and I had only a few hours to prepare. To my knowledge, this is the only PPM songbook containing this song. The song is wonderful and I would recommend the songbook in the paperback format but the Kindle format will be of limited utility to you.

If you like Peter paul and Mary you will love this guitar book. I have only been playing for less than 4 months and have been working my way up to playing almost a third of the songs in the book. For me I practice a lot more and it is not like practicing when I play somthing I like. This book is easy to follow and it has most of their best songs. So if you are a fan of Puff, Marvelous Toy, Blowin In the Wind and others, don't hesitate to buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter, Paul and Mary: Around the Campfire, August 10, 2011

This review is from: Peter, Paul and Mary: Around the Campfire (Paperback)

Includes 26 songs frequently recorded by Peter Paul, and Mary. Geared toward advanced beginner and beyond. Features guitar tab, lyrics and melody notes. Useful info provided as to how the group played the songs, such as strum patterns, use of a capo and tuning. Would probably be frustrating for a beginner, yet provide motivation to improve skills. Contains b/w photos of the group and calligraphy by Peter Yarrow. Would definitely recommend.
