I was wondering: Is it worth it to fork over the extra money to buy the Platinum Edition or should I just keep the special edition that was released a couple of years ago. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I own both editions, so maybe I can shed some light for you. It's completely up to you if you want to upgrade. The Platinum Edition features a new digital restoration and a new home theater mix, so the picture is definitely better, the colors are much more vibrant and the picture is cleaned up even more..the sound should be better too. There is also the Fast Play feature which plays the film automatically after previews and a sneak peak at the new Tinkerbell movie. The rest is up to you as far as special features go. Some are kid related of course. The Platinum Edition includes an option to jump to specific songs, with the option of having the lyrics on the screen or not. There's a read-along story called Peter's Playful Prank that's carried over from the Special Edition. The audio commentary from the Special Edition is also carried over. Disc 2 features a Never Before Seen Alternate Opening, Deleted Songs, 2 music videos, a feature with Walt Disney describing why he made Peter Pan. There's a read-a-long of what looks to be the entire movie. Three games: Smee's Sudoki Challenge, Tarrget Practice, and Tink's Fantasy Flight. The featurettes The Peter Pan Story and You Can Fly: The Making Of Peter Pan are carried over from the Special Edition. There are also a couple new featurettes: The Peter Pan That Almost Was and Tinkerbell: A Fairy's Tale. Finally there's art galleries. There you have it. It's pretty much a preference about sound and picture quality and the special features. Hope this helps
