2.0 out of 5 stars lacking detail
Some interesting accounts but all too often frustratingly lacking in specific details. Far too anecdotal and vague to be taken seriously as a convincing read. Really just a collection of stories rather than an attempt to present a well researched investigation into the phenomena of ghosts backed by solid facts, empirical data, and/or seemingly compelling evidence...

2.0 out of 5 stars lacking detail, July 5, 2010
This review is from: Peter Underwood's Guide to Ghosts and Haunted Places (Paperback)
Some interesting accounts but all too often frustratingly lacking in specific details. Far too anecdotal and vague to be taken seriously as a convincing read. Really just a collection of stories rather than an attempt to present a well researched investigation into the phenomena of ghosts backed by solid facts, empirical data, and/or seemingly compelling evidence. Ultimately disappointing from someone who is touted on the cover as "the world's leading paranormal investigator".

5.0 out of 5 stars Meticulously researched and compelling, February 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Peter Underwood's Guide to Ghosts and Haunted Places (Paperback)
From Britain's foremost parapsychologist and ghost hunter comes this fascinating volume on ghosts and hauntings, covering a variety of perspectives and some of the many cases of hauntings the author has witnessed and explored from those which can be passed off as hoaxes or tricks of the imagination to those which genuinely can only be explained by being recognized as paranormal phenomena.

Repeated sightings of ghosts and recurring events by multiple witnesses at different times, places and dimensions, in haunted houses, castles, roads, historic sites, theatres, churches, inns, trees and ponds.
The investigation is thorough and the reading is both chilling in parts but always compelling and convincing.
Includes sightings of famous people, cases of poltergeists and recurring replays of events involving suffering and high emotion, time slips and psyclic ghosts. Often ghosts with messages. Fascinating account such as that of St Thomas's Hospital in London where patients experienced a visit of a kindly nurse dressed in the uniform of a century before, and unknown to the other nurses, always shortly before death. Or of tress avoided by vagrants and visitors to the parks where they were, because of a feeling of doom and sometimes resulting in deaths of those who did sleep under the tree.
A First world War by-plane that succeeded in scuppering and often downing Nazi planes during the Battle of Britain and the many different sightings of the ghosts of Nazi soldiers in the Channel Islands which was the only part of Britain during World War II under German occupation.

both a guide and an encyclopedia, indispensable for anyone with any interest in ghosts and the supernatural.
