Book Description

“In a house in the forest all covered with vines, Lived a very small rabbit who did nothing but whine.”

Thus begins the rhymed story of Peter and the Whimper-Whineys. Peter's mother warns him that if he cannot stop whining and crying, he'll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. His adventure continues as he later hops into the woods and finds lots of frightening Whimper-Whineymen! He discovers that the Whimper-Whineys are very ill-mannered and rude, and that everything is sour in Whimper-Whineland. He decides his mother was right…If only he can get back home…! According to a recent Critique, “I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!... Parents everywhere applaud you!”

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it! April 21, 2010
My four year old daughter Mae says: It was pretty nice, I liked it. And it's very funny. Whimper Whineyland is not fun. I thought Peter should be happy the next day. I don't think whining and crying is a good thing to do. And you don't get what you want when you do that.

I hope she remembers this every day!

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys is a great book that will help rid your house of some of the whining! Another terrific rhymed text from Sherrill Cannon (we also love Santa's Birthday Gift in our house).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun learning experience for children September 19, 2010
By Genie
Peter and the Whimper-Whineys is a darling book for children. I thought that my grandchildren (ages 10 and 12) were beyond the age to enjoy this book, however, they proved me wrong and told me what a cute book this is and they are correct. It's a quick read, which is good to keep the attention of little children, but contains a good lesson for them about always whining to get what they want. The illustrations are adorable too. It is another great book from Sherrill Cannon who is the author of Santa's Birthday Gift as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Delight! September 16, 2013
Sherrill S. Cannon's book, "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" is an absolute delight! The rhythm, the cadence, and indeed the story itself are so lyrical, one is bound to feel the urge to "hippity, hoppity hop" along with Peter the rabbit.

What can one say but that...

Surprised I am not, at Ms. Cannon's Success,
Recipient of Seventeen National Awards, no less
For her tales, so delightful, music to one's ear
Go on then and get them for the kids you hold dear

Read them the story of Peter the bunny
Who changed his demeanor from sour to sunny.
Visit the land of the Whimper-Whineys Nation
And discover the reason for the big transformation

5.0 out of 5 stars Lesson's via Peter November 24, 2010
I bought this book for my daughter; my youngest daughter. She is a whiner by nature but we work diligently on this together. This book was a great way to teach her the lesson that just because she whines, doesn't mean mommy or anyone else will give her what she wants. A tough lesson to learn but a very important one. I pointed out that Peter had to learn this lesson too; and he did. She understood the message and loved the illustrations. A great way to read an entertaining story to a little one, while driving home a gentle life lesson.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Solution to Whining October 24, 2010
After a long day, (which included some whining from my daughters) we were ready to relax by reading a bedtime story together. We chose "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys". We were mesmerized by the charming poetic style of this story. My older daughter read the book with her voice "sing-songing" to the catchy rhythm. The beautiful illustrations help to bring the story alive and add to this delightful tale of Peter, who learns a valuable lesson, after whining too much! Peter's bedtime adventure is an entertaining and enchanting bedtime story and is a wonderful way to help teach children respect and good manners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter and the Whimper-Whineys October 16, 2010
Peter and the Whimper-Whineys tells the tale of a young rabbit who constantly whines. Each day he tends to be "selfish and cranky and cross," fussing about this and that. One day his mother has had enough when he complains about his sister:

"My sister has more soup than I in her bowl,
She took too much jelly to put on her roll;
She's got more than I do, it's really not fair,"
Whined Peter while sliding back down in his chair. - Sherrill Cannon

With that, he is sent promptly to bed. As he contemplates his situation, he begins to doze and all of a sudden he finds himself standing outside. Happy about his freedom, he takes a walk but doesn't go far when he meets a Whimper-Whiney Man who leads him to Whimper-Whineyland. For the first time he gets a taste of his own medicine and realizes what he sounds like to his family. After escaping and going back home, he decides to have a better day. This story is charming and teaches children what whining sounds like. I would recommend this small book to any mother who wants to teach their children not to whine or they may end up in Whimper-Whineyland.

Written by Linda Weaver Clarke, author of the new mystery series "The Adventures of John and Julia Evans."

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully resourceful lesson for children September 16, 2010
This is a very enjoyable book with lots of striking colourful pictures. I especially love the gorgeous Whimper-Whiney's which are creatures that whine and cry all the time. It is these creatures that teach Peter the rabbit just how uncomfortable whining and mannerless behaviour can make others feel. Sherrill managed to write a very entertaining story which would help many children see that whining is not a positive way to attract attention but rather a means of pushing people away. She uses soft poetry to tell her story which makes it a pleasure to read out loud because it keeps the children's attention throughout the story with carefully chosen flowing words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moms and Teachers LOVE this book! May 31, 2010
If you are a mother or a teacher, or both (like me!) you are going to love Peter and the Whimper-Whineys! This book hooks the reader even before turning the first page-with its clever title and illustration of the adorable main character, Peter, on the cover! It also peaks the reader's interest with the glimps of the Whimper-Whiney Man behind the bush. My First Graders wanted to see him the most, and were so excited when he was finally revealed in the story!
This story teaches a lesson in the importance of not whining while creating a memorable reference to what could happen after too much of it!!! My 2 older daughters will now tell my 3 year old to stop whining or she will have to visit the Whimper-Whineys!!!
This book is perfect for younger children as a read-aloud and for older children as a read-together. Children of all ages will love the rhythm and rhyme, and the illustrations that are set in the forest at night are exciting and mysterious! ENJOY!!!

I am a mother of four and a grandmother of ten, and I am also an Award-Winning Best-Selling Author! My books have received twenty-one 2011-14 National awards. "Gimme-Jimmy" has won 5: a Silver Global eBook Medal, a Pinnacle Achievement, a Silver Readers Favorite, Reader Views Third and Indie Excellence Finalist! "The Magic Word" winner of six awards, has received a 2011 Readers Favorite Gold Medal & Reader Views Literary Second Place Award, a 2012 Indie Next Gen Finalist Award and a 2012 IBA Finalist Award, as well as its 2011 NABE Pinnacle Achievement Award, and a Global eBook Finalist Award. "The Magic Word" is currently ranked #2 in Children's Tolerance. My Christmas book, "Santa's Birthday Gift", has received a 2011 Readers Favorite Silver Medal and also a 2011 National Indie Excellence Award - and "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" has received a 2011 Readers Favorite Bronze Award as well as a USA Best Books Finalist Award! What an amazing time!!!

I have been writing poetry since before I could write! (My mother wrote down the poetry I wrote as a four-year-old.) I have written five published rhymed children's stories - as well as six published rhymed musical plays for elementary school children, which have been performed internationally in the UK, Germany, Ireland, and others as well as the US. I love to write. My friends and family ask me if I think in rhyme and meter, and I have to admit that sometimes this is true!

Most of my books try to teach something, like good manners and caring for others. "Santa's Birthday Gift" is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked "But where's Santa?") The story is best for ages 3-9, to be read to children who still believe in Santa!

"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys"is designed to help parents cope with whining and complaining children. Peter is a small rabbit who does nothing but whine. His mother warns him that if he keeps on whining and crying, he'll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. His nocturnal adventures convince him his mother was right! If only he can get back home... A review editor for this story wrote: "I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!...Parents everywhere applaud you!"

"The Magic Word" has won several awards and is available on amazon and and other internet book sites. It is a story of a little girl who has to learn to say Please! It stresses the importance of good manners and thinking of others.

"Gimme-Jimmy", is a story about how a bully learns to share, and seems to have become popular quickly! Jimmy's New Polite Rule stresses thinking of others and being polite.

"Manner-Man" is about Superhero who helps children cope with bullies, and look within themselves for their own inner superhero. It incorporates many of the characters in m previous books, as well as their character traits. Consideration for others is a constant theme!

"My Fingerpaint Masterpiece" just released, deals with perspective, perception and self-esteem as a child paints artwork in class, and later discovers it as part of the town's Art Contest

All of my books are also part of a fund-raising effort: is for the CureJM Foundation, to help find a cure for Juvenile Myositis, an incurable children's disease. 50% of the cost of the books is donated to the fundraising cause. A new Fundraiser will be available by the end of April, with the same terms, but this one for an anti-bullying campaign at Manner-Man is happy about that!

Here's a little bit of my background: A real-live Eloise, I grew up in the Willard Hotel in Washington DC (my Dad was the manager), was married and lived in Northern Virginia for twenty years where my husband and I raised our four children. We later moved to Bucks County (Philadelphia PA suburbs) where we lived for 14 years before moving to the Binghamton NY area for 18 years, and we have just now moved back to Bucks County PA. We celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary in June! We are now retired, and we travel in our RV from the east coast to the west coast each year to spend time with our children and grandchildren. I have had a varied career: I was a teacher and coach for ten years in the Washington DC area, and then became a "stay-at-home-Mom" who in my spare-time was a professional newspaper sports photographer and columnist for several years when our boys were playing competitive soccer. When our girls became interested in theater, I became a Dinner Theatre Company Stage Manager (as well as lighting and sound technician) and also was an Assistant Talent Manager for Cathy Parker Talent when our youngest daughter was doing commercials and professional modeling in NYC. When we relocated to the Binghamton NY area, I became the Business Administrator for a software development company handling payroll and contracts.

Now I have time to write, when I'm not marketing (which is the other half of writing.) I spent many years collaborating with my daughter on rhymed musical plays for her elementary school, and now seven of our plays, "Have You Seen My Little Lamb", "The King's Spell","When You Wish Upon a", "The Wonderful World of Weather", "ABC December" , "The Alphabet Trip" and "We Have Character" are available at Lazy Bee Scripts - The plays have already had many performances in both the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as Australia, Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. I am trying to "make a difference".
