My four year old daughter Mae says: It was pretty nice, I liked it. And it's very funny. Whimper Whineyland is not fun. I thought Peter should be happy the next day. I don't think whining and crying is a good thing to do. And you don't get what you want when you do that.

I hope she remembers this every day!

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys is a great book that will help rid your house of some of the whining! Another terrific rhymed text from Sherrill Cannon (we also love Santa's Birthday Gift in our house).

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys is a darling book for children. I thought that my grandchildren (ages 10 and 12) were beyond the age to enjoy this book, however, they proved me wrong and told me what a cute book this is and they are correct. It's a quick read, which is good to keep the attention of little children, but contains a good lesson for them about always whining to get what they want. The illustrations are adorable too. It is another great book from Sherrill Cannon who is the author of Santa's Birthday Gift as well.

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys tells the tale of a young rabbit who constantly whines. Each day he tends to be "selfish and cranky and cross," fussing about this and that. One day his mother has had enough when he complains about his sister:

"My sister has more soup than I in her bowl,
She took too much jelly to put on her roll;
She's got more than I do, it's really not fair,"
Whined Peter while sliding back down in his chair. - Sherrill Cannon

With that, he is sent promptly to bed. As he contemplates his situation, he begins to doze and all of a sudden he finds himself standing outside. Happy about his freedom, he takes a walk but doesn't go far when he meets a Whimper-Whiney Man who leads him to Whimper-Whineyland. For the first time he gets a taste of his own medicine and realizes what he sounds like to his family. After escaping and going back home, he decides to have a better day. This story is charming and teaches children what whining sounds like. I would recommend this small book to any mother who wants to teach their children not to whine or they may end up in Whimper-Whineyland.

Written by Linda Weaver Clarke, author of the new mystery series "The Adventures of John and Julia Evans."

If you are a mother or a teacher, or both (like me!) you are going to love Peter and the Whimper-Whineys! This book hooks the reader even before turning the first page-with its clever title and illustration of the adorable main character, Peter, on the cover! It also peaks the reader's interest with the glimps of the Whimper-Whiney Man behind the bush. My First Graders wanted to see him the most, and were so excited when he was finally revealed in the story!
This story teaches a lesson in the importance of not whining while creating a memorable reference to what could happen after too much of it!!! My 2 older daughters will now tell my 3 year old to stop whining or she will have to visit the Whimper-Whineys!!!
This book is perfect for younger children as a read-aloud and for older children as a read-together. Children of all ages will love the rhythm and rhyme, and the illustrations that are set in the forest at night are exciting and mysterious! ENJOY!!!

Sherrill S. Cannon's book, "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" is an absolute delight! The rhythm, the cadence, and indeed the story itself are so lyrical, one is bound to feel the urge to "hippity, hoppity hop" along with Peter the rabbit.

What can one say but that...

Surprised I am not, at Ms. Cannon's Success,
Recipient of Seventeen National Awards, no less
For her tales, so delightful, music to one's ear
Go on then and get them for the kids you hold dear

Read them the story of Peter the bunny
Who changed his demeanor from sour to sunny.
Visit the land of the Whimper-Whineys Nation
And discover the reason for the big transformation

This is a very enjoyable book with lots of striking colourful pictures. I especially love the gorgeous Whimper-Whiney's which are creatures that whine and cry all the time. It is these creatures that teach Peter the rabbit just how uncomfortable whining and mannerless behaviour can make others feel. Sherrill managed to write a very entertaining story which would help many children see that whining is not a positive way to attract attention but rather a means of pushing people away. She uses soft poetry to tell her story which makes it a pleasure to read out loud because it keeps the children's attention throughout the story with carefully chosen flowing words.

After a long day, (which included some whining from my daughters) we were ready to relax by reading a bedtime story together. We chose "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys". We were mesmerized by the charming poetic style of this story. My older daughter read the book with her voice "sing-songing" to the catchy rhythm. The beautiful illustrations help to bring the story alive and add to this delightful tale of Peter, who learns a valuable lesson, after whining too much! Peter's bedtime adventure is an entertaining and enchanting bedtime story and is a wonderful way to help teach children respect and good manners.
