5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpieces, one and all., October 24, 2007
This review is from: Peteris Vasks: Pater Noster (Audio CD)
Vasks, through Ondine, has now released three masterful discs in a row, solidifying his reputation as the heir to Rautavaara. His control and language have progressed over time, from the Violence of his Second Symphony and beauty of his Violin Concerto and Symphony 3 to the funereal qualities of the Cello Concerto. Now we have, if anyone need still be convinced a disc of choral work that adds three considerable masterpieces to the genre.
I beg anyone who believes that modern music is dead, or was killed by the Boulezians, to listen to this and rautavaara's works over the past twenty years.
This disc in particular is wonderful. It has all the beauty of Part without the boredom or inconsequential tedious musical accompaniment.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous music, with a somewhat etherial quality, somewhat reminiscent of Goreki's 3rd Symphony., July 13, 2010

Peaceful, harmonious, and etherial. The high soprano tesitura reminds me of choral versions of the Barber Adagio. I also purchased a Vasks string quartet CD which has a more energetic quality in the music.
