Product Description

Peterson TP-3 Clip-On Tuning Pickup includes a more sensitive piezo pickup than any previous model to improve the signal transmission of your acoustic instrument into your tuner. The larger opening can now accommodate even the most challenging placement. Higher gripping tension ensures that the TP-3 stays in place without damaging your instrument.

Inexpensive tuners are easily confused when several instruments are playing at once. By attaching this contact microphone to your own instrument, the tuner can concentrate on your instrument with less distraction from the others. However, it favors some registers over others, and if your note is in one of the lower, less-favored registers, there can still be some interference. Also, the microphone attaches easily to many instruments, but not all.

I can't tell any difference between the Peterson pickup and other brands, such as Korg, so I would go with price. They all use 1/4" phone plug outputs. There are tuners uniquely adapted to certain instruments, such as guitars, which might serve you better.

Overtones are generally more-or-less impure, and tuners may not lock onto the harmonic which most interests you. I think this is a tuner problem, not a pickup problem.

I purchased two of these tuning pickups to use, first and foremost, with a Peterson VSII Virtual Strobe tuner and a new Peterson StroboPlus HD tuner. Not surprisingly, this study but extremely sensitive pickup works a treat with these portable, high-end tuners.
But Peterson also claims the TP-3 can be used with any other tuner, so I plugged it into a Korg Master MT1200 Multi Temperament Tuner and it only served to make this most accurate of tuners more so. This piezo pickup tuner made it possible to precisely tune different stringed with an unimagined accuracy in a variety of settings.

The TP-3 also made clear that none of the Snark or Intellitouch tuners were NOT as accurate as any of the Peterson tuners or, for that matter, any tuner that can accept a ¼-inch male plug.

This is a worthwhile investment for any musician who craves tuning precision to enhance his/her musicality.

I have a Boss TU-12 that I use to tune acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, mandolin and ukulele. The tuner never gave me stable readings, especially with the uke.

The TP-2 solved all of those problems. It provides a very steady reading on the tuner needle and really makes accurate tuning acoustic instruments very easy. It works pretty well on my electric guitars also!

The only down side to this pickup is that the cable is a little thin and I'm not sure how it will stand up to constant stage use.

The Peterson tuners are just the best. I am a Viola player and I use this sensor on my bridge.
The cable is nice and long so can go over my left shoulder and to the tuner I have which is a Peterson stoboflip.
This is great for more challenging scales like D flat and G flat major where there is little assistance
from open string resonance.
Very pleased.

I purchased this tuning pickup because of Petersons reputation (I own a Stomp Classic and Stroboclip as well) and this connected seamlessly with my iPhone adapter to tune my acoustics with my iStrobosoft iPhone app. Money well spent

I foound the older model easier to use being it was a little smaller. The bigfger clamp may work better on some instruments, but o a bassoon it tends to be very unstable and wants to fall off.

Very handy little device for in-home practice to a limited degree. It picks up what you play very well, but it also picks up any sound to your instrument, such as the sound of your fingers impacting the fretboard, pick clicks, your hand brushing against the face, or the mic cord bumping against something. Very sensitive. Can be useful where a mic is impractical or won't work. I use mine in conjunction with a Marshall guitar amp. Mine came with the cord badly kinked from packaging to the point I'm afraid of damaging it if I try to straighten it out.

Having a stroboflip tought would be great to Have the clamp instead of plugging in And out the 1/4 cable. I compared it to My snark tuner And the tracking of this TP-3 is awful. Cant blame the stroboflip since its wonderful Being plugged. But the TP-3 would collect dust. As i said i compared it to the snark tuner And the tracking is awful with these device
