Berkley Sensation March 1, 2005
The death of her grandmother--the beloved matriarch of Langstown, Florida--has thrown Pietra "Pete" Lang's preparations for the Fourth of July into chaos. But nothing is going to stop her from throwing the most fabulous party ever. Not the fireworks igniting between her and her brother's infamous divorce attorney. And especially not the dead body in the freezer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful Where You Read This Book!!!, March 15, 2005
This review is from: For Pete's Sake (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
Be careful where you read this book. I have not laughed this hard during a read in a very long time. This book is full of quirky characters, situations you hope you will never run into and a romance that startes off in the most unexpected place.

Pete is trying to put together a nice funeral for her grandma, continue on with the fourth of July celebration that her town hosts and keep a smile on her face all the while. Well, that would be easy IF...when looking to put a mess of catfish into the freezer she didn't happen to see the frozen dead body of one of her late grandfather's mistress. She and her best friend are trying to come to terms with what they just saw...and more importantly what to do with it when enters Danny. Danny is her brothers divorce lawyer...he's there to start those proceedings but steps into the a bigger mess than he ever dreamed possible. Just when things can't get any worse...the dead body up and disappears. Add to this the rest of Pete's family showing up and chemistry between the playboy of the year (rumors are an ugly thing) and Pete's life has just gotten a tad more complicated. Can Pete and Danny find a common ground and quite time to see if their feelings are more than steamy lust? Oh, and just where did the dead body go?

This book is not brain surgery but it's fun. Ms. Buckley has created a very fun world to visit with characters that will make you smile and at time laugh out loud. Pete and Danny are a fun set of protaganist and their romance although not as steamy as the Florida Panhandle summer is sweet and not with out it's moments. I recommend this read if you love laughter with your romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars suspiciously sweet, April 21, 2005

This review is from: For Pete's Sake (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
Pete, our heroine, is only trying to keep her disfunctional and incredibly wealthy family together and looking good in the eyes of the world. However she is really being tested when she has to hide her politician brothers divorce, her sisters messy playboy boyfriends, her creepy voodoo housekeepers predictions, host half the town events for 4th of July, and grieve for her freshly deceased grandmother who is yet to be buried...and oh, yeah, hide the corpse it turned out grandma stored in the broken down shed freezer. Throw in a hunky lawyer who just happens to know about "Ms. Fritz, the bimbo corpse" and wants her to naively turn to the police while falling head over heels for her and a mortician boyfriend who seems to be in on a body snatching scheme with half the town and you can see why this is an entertaining read.
For Pete's Sake isn't Pulitzer winning but it is a frolicking beach read that's worth picking up.

3.0 out of 5 stars light-hearted, October 8, 2005
This review is from: For Pete's Sake (Berkley Sensation) (Paperback)
Pete's got broad shoulders. At least, her entire family seems to think so - anything happens, Pete - aka Peitra Lang - can take care of it. That's why, in the midst of the celebrations surrounding her grandmother's funeral - I'll explain that later - the family doesn't worry about the dead body in the deep freezer. Well, until the body disappears. Pete figures the problem is gone - but her brother's lawyer says otherwise. Pete is determined to throw the best party ever in memory of her grandmother, the matriarch of Langstown, but her family and Danny, the lawyer, keep distracting her. Can she pull off the party AND find out who was in the freezer without marring her family's good name? This is a cute romance, minor on the mystery. A good distraction.
