5.0 out of 5 stars Petey Wheatstraw...a Blaxploitation classic!, September 10, 2001
For anyone looking for a serious movie about Blacks in the 70's you probably don't want to watch this. But if you grew up in the ghetto and you're looking for something GHETTO FABULOUS then this is your movie. If you're looking for a movie that is absolutely HILARIOUS this is your movie. This is truly a classic and I saw it for the first time when I was in the 9th grade about 18 years ago. Up until now, I had not been able to find it, and when I would mention it to people, only the "real" people I met had seen it. Everything about the movie was wrong, the lighting, the acting, the costumes, and especially the karate (I know Bruce Lee was (mad)!), but it was so wrong that it was funny as HELL. Even the people who say they hate it know they had to laugh when he tried to use that fake Jamaican accent to get into Leroy & Skillet's show. Or when Philadelphia Nell (OK..HELLO...the movie was shot in LA) kept answering the phone with that GHETTO "Hello". There are 2 movies that every Black person should own. ROOTS and this movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Badder than Dolemite?, March 26, 2000

B-MAN "B" (Earth, occasionally. Until I get bored.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Petey Wheatstraw [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Rudy Ray Moore plays the title role in this off the wall action/comedy. Here's the deal, Petey Wheatstraw is born a full grown boy right after his mother gives birth to a watermelon? You still with me? - Anyway he grows up a little like Karate Kid and becomes the baddest comedian in town. When his arch rivals, Leroy and Skillet, hear he is coming to town to do a big show the same night they plan to grand open their new club and act, they set out to have him hit. After a massacre outside a church, where Petey is killed, the devil walks up and makes him an offer - to let him live and get revenge if he marries his super ugly daughter (hence, the devil's son in law). This one is up there with the Dolemite films in laughs and action. Rudy does it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars That's my FATHER!!!, July 30, 2004
Funny enough I had never seen this movie until I turned 21 years old. I had heard my mom talk about my father acting in a couple of movies, but I hadn't seen any of them until this one. This was one of the funniest, worst movies I have ever seen. It was rediculous but hilarious. I couldn't help but laugh throughout the movie. My dad Marvin Jones plays Scarface Willie in the movie, and it was funny to watch him act. Cliff Roquemore was my father's best friend and it was nice to see his children throughout the movie. I give this movie 5 stars for it being funny and chock full of my family!
