It can be used very comfortably on human toe nails for shaping and reducing the nails.

Any drawbacks, ie: size and switch location, are easily offset by the qualities listed above.

I bought this item recently just because i needed a practical rotary tool, and this looked like a good bet. So far it has been. When I first got it I did have to charge the battery for about 3 hrs. but it does hold a charge fairly well, depending on how fast or slow the adjustable speed is set. Another plus for it is.. It operates very smoothly, almost noise free. I guess it's designed that way so as not to scare your pet(s) if you do intend to use it as a grooming tool.
One specific thing I should point out that may be a plus or minus (depending on the size of your hands) is that this thing IS a hand full, and I've got pretty good sized hands. It measures 10" long (with filing drum attached). The base is nearly 6" in diameter, and it weighs in at 12.5 to 14 oz. frankly these dimensions work fine for me. I'm a 6ft tall dude with good sized hands,as mentioned, but if you're a smaller person with more petite hands it could be somewhat awkward to use. Over all though, I like it. Hard to beat for the price.

My original (really expensive) peticure bit the dust. I've tried the cheap as-seen-on-tv knock offs from the drugstores and they simply don't have the power to do the job. I paired my existing safety cap with this tool and was back in business. I followed the training instruction on the peticure website and my dog will now actually roll over and hold her paws in the air when I get the tool out. She knows it doesn't hurt and there is a treat in it for her.

Great price quality tool ! As good or better than a dremel
Now , just how do I remove the battery pack to use rechargeables or alkaline without destroying it? hehe
Actually, I may be able to do this hack.
So many of the products today are shipped with crummy batteries that render the equipment disposable.
It is usually disappointing ,but at this price I would by more! Thanks
Update ...use a screwdriver to pop the four plastic clips to open the battery pac (look for the two arrows on one side)
nicad batteries look good/fresh inside!

This tool seems like a great deal. When I'm getting the dog settled for a trim however the battery conks out on me. The battery and charger are poor- They generate a lot of heat and it seems the battery degrades quickly. Is it worth it? I don't buy tools that are dull or fall apart- regardless of price. The same holds for this one.
The single star reflects the value of this tool.

The first time worked fine, although, I had to wait for the battery to charge which is odd they should send the item pre-charged. Also the sand paper bit covers come off after 3 seconds of grinding then you have to slide it back on every time. The second time I tried to use it the battery was dead once again. After an hour long charge, I turned the dial only to hear the most unpleasant squealing that made my dogs whine. The bit did not turn. The only way it works is if I turn the dial all the way up. This product is more of a hassle than convenience. The only reason I gave it more than one star is because I received it very quickly and it worked the first time (barely) Considering asking for a replacement or return for my money back.

This tool is a bit louder than I expected from previous reviews. It scares my (somewhat high-strung) dog, she doesn't like it and fights me every step of the way when I use it (about once a week). However, it is a vast improvement on trying to clip her (very thick) toenails with a pair of snips and even if you nip the quick you don't go nearly as far as with traditional snips. I'm very glad, overall, that I bought this and would still (for it's flaws) recommend it to other dog-parents.
