Our last edition was over 10 years old. You can imagine that we are delighted with this new one. Since we acquired our first one (more years ago than I care to mention) the progress is visible. This is one of the most excellent handbooks for every civilized person, a necessity comparable only to the OED and a good world atlas. So neat and so handy,too!!!

The usual high standard of Larousse encyclopedias in an updated -in fact very up to the day version. Good printing, good binding, very beautiful, mostly color illustrations. Recommended anybody interested in French language and culture or in a French view of seeing the world.

this 2009 edition has 150 000 definitions, 28 000 Proper nouns, and 5 000 illustrations. 321 maps.French grammar,and so many other facts and chronological events in history.(included is a one year free subscription online on Larousse.fr - up to date articles of more than 150 000).
I'm so pleased to have this dictionary in my collection. I highly recomended it !

I've got plenty of English/French dictionaries for working on translations. But have you ever wanted to see the definition of a French word in French? I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to compare an English definition of a French word with a French definition of the same French word. Well, this one fills the bill and it's got nice pictures too which is really great for visual learners. In fact, they say that if you can associate words with pictures, it helps you to remember them. What more could you ask for? I think Larousse makes the best quality dictionaries. I own the French-English advanced dictionary, the concise dictionary and the ipod touch application - all high quality. The binding is signature sewn (hardbound edition) which means it's going to last.

It is comparable in size to the Advanced French-English dictionary, but the text it slightly smaller. I don't find it difficult to read, but I'm not having to hold small print a foot away from my face (yet!). So it's not a problem for me. I find it to be very comprehensive, offering multiple definitions for most words.

The best. If you do any serious French reading or writing at all, you must have this endlessly helpful resource. It is a lifetime acquisition and you'll refer to it year after year.

This lovely book is a great source of reference for any person with an interest in France, it's language, people and customs. Beautifully presented and a pleasure to read. A necessity for the advanced learner of the french language.

I was a little disappointed with the quarter inch dent in the cover, but besides that I absolutely adore my book!

This is my first Petit Larousse Illustré. While it is an excellent dictionary, its size is smaller than I expected, and the result is that the typeface is smaller than I expected. I can't read it without a magnifying glass.

Incredibly useful, detailed and well illustrated. Le petit Larousse has always been my favorite dictionary when living in France and will remain my #1 reference book.

The Petit Larousse Illustré (2008) is a great reference and a must for any Francophile.
