SIZE:
Bed is actually more like 14" instead of 17". Mine isn't even 17" across at the widest point of the base. The inside circular base is approximately 14" wide. The opening at the front is about 10" across at the bottom, and is sloped steeply enough that there's not a lot of room to snuggle or burrow inside the "blanket."

My cat weighs about 9lbs and while she could probably FIT inside the bed, it's about as big as she is curled up, and there's no extra room to sprawl (as she is wont to do...).

FABRIC:
Inside fabric is a very nice berber polar fleece. Outside fabric feels like a fake, plasticky velour -- very cheap feeling, and doesn't seem like it would wear very well, OR hold up to a pet lounging on or around it.

BOTTOM LINE:
If you're at all worried about size, I might recommend either getting the larger one (PetMate Burrow Bed or Petmate 25" Burrow Bed, Colors may vary) or looking for something of higher quality.

I have a siamese cat and she normally avoids store-bought beds, toys, etc., but this burrow bed is an exception! It took me a while to introduce it to her--I put it in the spot where she normally sleeps, and she ended up sleeping on top of it. I showed her the "burrow feature" and with a little help, she started burrowing! Now it's her favorite sleeping spot, and they're inseparable!

I purchased this bed for one of our outdoor cats. I ordered the 17" not knowing what size would be best. The cat is small so this bed was perfect. If you have a large cat, you may want to go to the next size up. This bed is nice because it hugs the cat. Some may not like that feature, but mine does. The fleece inside is really nice too. I am glad I bought it and it was well worth the price.

I ordered this, and the 25 inch burrow bed at the same time, thinking the 25" would hold my older cat, and this would work for my younger, smaller cat. No such luck. The bed barely makes 17", and is so over stuffed and stiff, I can't imagin any cat would find it comfortable.

Not only would my younger cat not even attempt to get in it, she couldn't fit. She barely weighs 9 lbs, and a very lean kitty she is, but also a very long one as it turns out. She couldn't turn around, nor sprawl out as she likes to do on my bed. If you consider your cat even remotely 'average' sized, do yourself a favor and spring for the 25" bed.

I bought this bed for my 5lb chihuahua. She is always getting under our covers. She loves this bed. In fact, we have to move it sometimes just so she will get off the bed and play. Cons: It does collect hair and it sinks in after she has laid on it for a day. Pros: It is super easy to clean. I just toss it in the wash and it looks new, puffy and all. Over all, I really think it is worth the money.

This purchase was a big disappointment. The bed I received was overstuffed, making it impossible for a pet to lie on it -- the stuffing rolls them off the bed. This makes it totally unusable for my 5# chihuahua much less the larger cats.

The photo shows a much less stuffed model. When I get the time, I'll rip open a seam and pull half the stuffing out and re-sew.

The 'roof' part of this bed is really flimsy. It will not stay up, so my dog just lies on top of it like any bed. Maybe cats will burrow into it, but the photos make it look like it's a bit more cave-like than it is. Construction otherwise is okay, but if you really want something your pet can crawl into, rather than on top of, keep looking.

Bed isnt as big as it said it was, defiantely a smaller bed and if you have an small cat or dog 8 inches or longer then its definately not the bed for you, because it will be to small to fit them into it. I would suggest buying a different bed or a larger size even if you think you have a really small dog.

I added a decorative wire cord at the top to keep the hood up. My dog just prefers to lie on top, which doesn't provide enough warmth. This size is good for a toy dog, 5 lbs or under. The product is attractive. If your dog is a persistent burrower, he'll figure it out. Mine didn't.

I have a tiny (less than 3 pounds) Russian Toy dog who loves this bed. He grabs a toy and snuggles down into the back of the bed. Sometimes he burrows too far and flips the bed over, so I make sure to back the bed up against a chair. I machine washed and dried the bed the other day and it came out just fine. The filling is a little puffier than it was, but no harm done. Great buy for my dog.
