5.0 out of 5 stars Our cat carrier of choice
In an emergency, you could bundle kitty into a pillow case to take him to the vet's. I've never tried this, but my friend who volunteers for the Humane Society says it does work. However, you are much better off with a pet carrier, and this one is a good size for all but the largest of cats (I go up one size for my 30 lb. Maine Coon).

Another good feature...

5.0 out of 5 stars Our cat carrier of choice, January 5, 2007

In an emergency, you could bundle kitty into a pillow case to take him to the vet's. I've never tried this, but my friend who volunteers for the Humane Society says it does work. However, you are much better off with a pet carrier, and this one is a good size for all but the largest of cats (I go up one size for my 30 lb. Maine Coon).

Another good feature of this particular carrier, is that you can take it apart at the vet's if your cat refuses to come out. You might be surprised at how difficult it is to budge a cat who has all four feet braced against the inside of the carrier.

I recommend getting one Kennel Cab per pet just in case you have an emergency, such as a pending hurricane or fire, and have to move all of your animals at once. This model is easy to stack, and easy to clean.

Petmate makes an excellent pet carrier for multiple uses for your furry little loved ones! This size is perfect for cats and small dogs that weigh up to roughly 16 pounds, and other pets you may have. This four sides of the carrier have plenty of ventilation; and it's easy to carry and easy to assemble/take apart.

In case your pet is skittish about getting out of the carrier when they sense they're at the vet, another reviewer writes that it comes in very handy to have the carrier able to be opened from sides so that the top comes off. That reviewer sure is right! Some pets are extremely reluctant to come out of their kennel carriers. I also love the fact that you can attach the top handle of the carrier to a car safety belt. Excellent!

The plastic is quite strong; and when they say its high impact they sure are right! It also has enough room below the "windows" on each side of the carrier so if your pet has an accident it won't necessary spill out from the carrier onto a car seat or train seat.

I don't know if this is "FAA approved;" but you can call the company using their toll free number to find out. If this carrier is not approved by the FAA, you will not be able to carry your pet onboard an aircraft in this carrier.

Overall, this fine carrier is worth every penny you pay for it--it'll last you forever! It is easy to clean as well. Put down a soft towel or a blanket on the "floor" of the carrier and your little darling is good to go!

Here's hoping your pet uses it in good health!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice size crate for Yorkie, easy to assemble., November 8, 2008

Very nice crate, easy to assemble. Just the right size for my Yorkie that is 10" tall and 9" long (weight 6 lbs.). He has room to stretch out and turn around in comfort. Light weight, very roomy. I highly suggest a fleece pet bed liner, makes it warm and comfy.

No joke... I don't even want to know how many hours I put in to finding the "perfect kennel" for the "best price". It all came down to the locking mechanism on the door and the latches on the base which connects the top to the bottom; both of which are excellent! Can't beat the price, I've done all the leg work...this is it! You won't be disappointed (and of course being able to choose a color sweetens the deal!).

5.0 out of 5 stars This carrier has dramatically improved the life of our 18.5 year old cat, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Petmate 21276 Kennel Cab Fashion Pet Carrier, Intermediate, Moss Bank/Coffee Grounds (Misc.)
Rambo is 18.5 years old. That's roughly 93 in human. As a kitten, he earned his name and he's not yet ready to give it up--even if it hurts him to fight us coming out of his carrier at his once a week vet visits for pain meds.

The Petmate carrier is great for Rambo because all we have to do is pop the sides. Our vet can check him and give him his shots, which causes a lot less pain and stress for an old man cat who's well earned some respect and dignity.

The carrier is also lightweight, so it doesn't add significantly to Rambo's 12 pounds when he's being carried up the stairs or across a parking lot into the vet's office. I suspect we'll probably replace our other three carriers with the Petmates because they are well worth the expense for our spoiled pets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Crate, April 15, 2011
This review is from: Petmate 21276 Kennel Cab Fashion Pet Carrier, Intermediate, Moss Bank/Coffee Grounds (Misc.)
We purchased one of these and when it came in the mail, we were very impressed with the features of this crate compared with our other crates that we presently own. We just love the feature where you can attach it to the seat belt. We also love the space to store a leash or treats on top. We would always misplace our leashes before, but not now. The door is easy to open and close. The colors are attractive. The little trench in the bottom edges is nice in case your pet has an accident so that they are not totally sitting in it. My old crates were totally flat on the bottom and if they had an accident it got all over them, not fun when you are getting ready to arrive at the vet. We are planning on replacing all of our crates with one of these. Made in the U.S.A. another great plus.

Plus's: Trench in bottom
Place to attach seat belt
Leash and/or treat compartment
Attractive colors
Easy to open and close
Made in the U.S.A.

3.0 out of 5 stars If your cat will come out of carriers, pick a different carrier, March 15, 2011

When I adopted my new cat, she was scared of everything. (She had previously been a feral cat.) So, with a trip to the vet with a terrified kitty in mind, I picked this case since it can open from the top. In the two weeks before the appointment, she settled down to a calm, happy kitty (yay!).

Which left me with this carrier. I don't know if it's just my carrier or all are like this, but the snaps connecting the top and the bottom don't stay locked and open way too easily. When I put the case into my car, just rubbing the side of the case against the car seat made the two snaps on the side open. Just touching one of the front snaps made it open. I was seriously worried that the case would fall apart while carrying it from the house to the car and the car into the vet's office.

Since my cat will exit the carrier on her own (or be pulled out with little resistance) I'm going to replace this carrier with a normal one.

So, if your cat won't brace all their limbs in an effort not to be pulled out, you might consider a carrier that is one piece instead of split in half like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed, October 2, 2008

I knew the type of crate I wanted, I had borrowed this exact model from a friend when we got our puppy. It's perfect for crate training and for traveling. My only issue with it is that my four year old son keeps unlatching the side latches, so if you put the puppy in the crate and pick it up without checking, 1/2 of the crate will fall to the ground along with your pet. If you don't have a four year old who likes to "undo" everything, then it shouldn't be a problem!

I almost lost my cat trying to use this carrier the first time. She pushed the front grate open when I'd set the carrier on the curb while opening my car door. I moved fast to push the grate shut with my foot and get the carrier into the car.

The carrier arrives disassembled. The instructions for putting it together are incorrect. You cannot put the door in place in their sequence: inserting both bottom posts and then both top posts. You must insert the 2 fixed posts on the left side first, then the right hand latch posts (which compress so they'll pop in). Also, most of the plastic latches around the perimeter are fastenable only if they are properly aligned to cutouts visible only on the inside. I can't imagine these latches holding up to many openings/closings without cracking off.

The plastic, touted as "fashion" is not sturdy. I would never consider sending an animal on an airplane in it. The little food/water dish is a joke. It would empty immediately if the crate were tipped at all. One of the little plastic end caps on the spring latch was missing from my shipment. I actually easily removed the other one - because an animal might chew them if they came off. (Noted by other reviewers.)

I give this carrier 2 stars only because once correctly assembled, you could transport an animal a short distance. I don't believe it's a good idea to disassemble it for storage.
