5.0 out of 5 stars Works great
It's a really simple and easy to use and clean self feeder. We were gone for 5 days and had no problem with having enough food.

2.0 out of 5 stars Marginally functional, October 10, 2009

I purchased this feeder at a local big box for my single cat. It fills easily and usage requires little explanation. However, it only functions marginally well. As another reviewer noted, the food does not refill the bowl well. I often come home and find the food kind of stuck at the back of the bowl. A little jiggle to the whole device gets the food to come out. A paw to the food might work as well, but apparently my cat doesn't seem to do this. (Despite being HUNGRY!) The food I am using in it is Purina Complete Care. Perhaps the food shape is a factor, but I think the feed ramp is just not steep enough. YMMV.

Update:
I tried a different food (Science Diet) which is a very small pellet type food. Food still does not fill the bowl well. Leaving the review at two stars.

I have this in blue but my cat manages to knock the food out everywhere around the bowl until more food is piles up around the thing than in it. A bigger base would help.

It holds the cat food alright. But the constructions is too light and utterly flimsy. The cat knocks it over and apart in no time. Be prepared to use some duct tape and to nail the bottom to a piece of wood to keep it upright.

i picked up a couple of these last year to simplify the feeding of our 5-cat household, and they kind of help, but they're really pretty dinky.

ultimately, there are 4 separate pieces to one of these feeders: there is the clear reservoir that holds the kibble, there is a lid for the reservoir, there is the bowl piece, and then there is a piece that attaches to the top of the "bowl" piece with a hole in the top that the reservoir fits into. it disassembles easily for cleaning, but the rest of the time, most of the pieces don't fit together well. if you aren't careful when picking it up and moving it around, the feeder comes apart. either the "bowl" piece separates from the piece on top of it, or the reservoir comes loose from the piece that it plugs into. either way, you're stuck with a mess of kibble everywhere. i use a larger version of this feeder for my feral cats and don't have as many problems. i think that the small size of this feeder (and the bits that are supposed to secure the pieces together) causes this problem.

also, a lot will depend on the type of kibble that you use. initially, the kibble we used was shaped like a plus sign, + . these kibbles didn't flow out well at all. usually, we had to poke a finger around in the opening to do what gravity couldn't. later we used a food that featured only spherical kibbles, and it seemed to work well. i had assumed that the round kibbles rolled off of one another more easily and that this was what made the difference. but the shape couldn't have been the only factor. we have since switched kibbles yet again. the kibble we're currently using is also spherical, but the individual kibbles are smaller. for some reason, this food keeps overflowing the bowl part, leaving piles of kibble on side of the bowl. it isn't as if the cats are "digging" and kicking the kibble out, and they aren't jostling the feeder. it somehow overflows just with regular use.

so basically, there are a very limited number of kibbles out there that work well with this feeder, and even then, it falls apart if you aren't extremely delicate with it. you'd do better to just buy a really big bowl.

3.0 out of 5 stars more of a semi-automatic feeder than an automatic feeder, October 9, 2009

The only annoying thing about this is that the food doesn't refill into the bowl easily. I don't think its the food I use, cuz its just your basic cat-kibble shape. Since my cat can't seem to figure out how to use her paw to trick it into spilling out more food, I have to go over to it every so often and shuffle the food stuck in the back forward so that it will refill. Not a big deal, but definitely a design flaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basics You Can Count On, October 3, 2006
This review is from: Petmate Le Bistro Pet Feeder, 2-Pound Capacity, Bleached Linen (Misc.)
Though I also use Fresh Flow waterers, I still keep one of these waterers up at all times. It works like an office water-cooler, you just refill the bottle and tip it onto the base. As water is used, it refills to keep the level in the bowl. No mechanical parts to break down. The base is easily cleaned with soap and water and the bottle just needs to have a hot water and bleach soak now and then.

The feeder is a matching gravity feeder that loads thru the top.

Basic, well-made, and they last forever.

Five paws-up =^..^=

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty and just heavy, October 20, 2011

OK I'm a pretty strong guy but when you fill up the tank it has a weight of over 45 lbs and then you have to flip it quickly and stand it upright on the dispenser. If you don't do it quick enough it goes all over the place. A plus is even with our 3 pets it takes them awhile to drink this much water so the fill-ups are not that frequent. I probably would rather go with a 3 gallon tank and fill it a little more often rather than wrestle with this beast.

i think this was the worst thing that i have ever brought. we have five dog at home so wanted something so that we don't need to fill up so much and when i saw this i thought that it looked great so i order two. but when they got here we filled them up and all of the water came out of the bottom. we could not find any way of making any water stay in the bottle. so i am now going to find some else
PS if i could i would not even give it one star :(
