The cat loves it! (we do too),
This review is from: Petmate Booda Dome Litter Box (Misc.)
Pros:
- Round, small, neutral color. - Attractive styling. - Hardly any odor (at least significantly less than a traditional open litter box). - Cat seems to like it as she likes to "circle" and she gets some kitty privacy. - Easy to clean (top of dome easily comes off). - Cheap! Cons: - Lip does not prevent litter from coming out when cat digs (but I imagine this is to be expected and it's really not that bad). - Liner can become disconnected from base. - Attracts dust. Bottom line: Pros outweigh the cons. We are happy. The cat is happy. : )

Much TOO Small,
By After 1 of my 2 cats passed away I decided to get this box, as I live in a small apartment. I was so sure that this one would work as well as the huge one that I immediately tossed it out. Big regret!! Even though my cat is not large (he's 8-9 pounds), it is so small for him that his [...] hangs out the door on a regular basis when he goes potty. I have started piling the litter up high on the side opposite the door, leaving a tiny bit on the floor of it on the door side, and that seems to help. I still have to clean it twice a day to RE-pile the litter up so he'll turn around so his [...] is inside. I REALLY regret tossing the larger box! I'd much rather give up more floor space than clean up the mess that this one is causing.

Good but leaks pee,
By Marcus "xmarcus" (Toronto) - See all my reviews

Our cats pee against the side of the dome and the pee leaks out onto the floor.
Otherwise it's good but we can't use it because of the leak.

Worthless for adult cats,

I wanted a covered litter box for our screened in porch. The larger cats (15 lbs or so) will not even go in. The smaller cats put their bodies in and lift their rears and pee or poop right out the door. The pan part is too low and even if they turn around the pee goes between the lip of the dome and the pan and gets all over the floor. I would NOT recommend it this litter box, except perhaps for kittens.

I bought this without looking at the product in a store beforehand. My poor cat could barely fit in it. While she did her best and didn't have any accidents, I couldn't bear to watch her contort so she could do her business. An extra-large would have been better. She is not a gigantic cat, but she is not a small kitten either. I was also dipleased with the thin plastic. In addition the liners didn't fit well ... rectangular liners for a round product are not a good idea. All in all, this was a waste of money. I sighed as I threw it in the garbage.

Perfect for my apartment and two cats.,

I purchased this after I bought the larger Clean Step model with the little stairs.
I looooved the Clean Step. I bought this one because it was slightly smaller and my cats traditionally used a second smaller pan for peeing. The Clean Step helped dramatically with the horrible poo stink in my apartment. After 48 hours I'm pleased with this smaller dome. It only gets 4 stars however because the top doesn't "snap" or "latch" to the bottom the way the Clean Step snugly fits together. But really, that's the only problem (and okay, you do have to wipe the dust off them.) My boxes have to unfortunately be in the living room and the two models are much nicer to look at. I have to laugh at the complaints about liners and pee-leakage on the side. If you're putting in so much litter that your cat is peeing on the edging and it's leaking out, then you're putting too much litter in! Also, less litter will prevent the cat from kicking too much out on the floor. As for liners, I don't use them. It's the most impractical concept for an animal with claws that likes to dig; of course it's going to get holes in it! If you don't like dealing with a lot of litter waste, switch to a crystal litter that I only requires the removal of solid waste. As for the size, I have a 6 pound lean torbie, and a 10 pound, fluffy, part-Maine Coone. They have no problem navigating this box.

I purchased this box in pearl directly from Amazon about a month ago along with the Booda litter scoop and mat after reading customer reviews on them. This has been a great box for our 3 month old kitten. She started out litter training in an open rectanglar litter box, so I was worried she would not take to the Booda Dome. There was no need to worry though as she took right to it and has never had an accident since we've been using it. The box is a little larger than I expected, but is such a different, more modern looking box design that I don't mind if it takes up a little more room in the bathroom than I expected. It really contains litter smell. I clean it 1-2 times daily and leave it in my main bathroom as it produces no smell, so I don't have to worry about it offending guests. It's true the top does not latch to the base, but I twist it about a quarter of the way around to make sure I have it sitting securely on the base. Haven't had any issues with urine leaking out the sides, not even sure how it could do that as the waste is about 1.5 inches below the rim of the lower portion of the box. Have had no problem with litter being kicked out the front opening either. Am really glad I chose this box and would recommend it to others, as it is stylish and really great at containing all odor and litter.

Love this box,

My 5 month old kitten had never used a covered litter box (to my knowledge) so I was nervous he'd be afraid to try it. Not only was he jumping in it while I was setting it up (he jumped in and used the base before I could get the cover on), I actually watched him make a decision to use it. I kept his old box so he could transition into this new one. He ran into the kitchen to his old box, stopped short, looked at the booda dome, back at his old box, and happily trotted into the booda dome. So cute! So I immediately took his old box away and he's been using his booda dome since. He's tiny, but he's got a lot of extra room in this box so I think it will be fine for when he's full grown. It really is a big box - way bigger than the traditional rectangle one I had. The only thing is I would NOT recommend buying the booda dome liners. They barely fit the box and come loose as kitty does his thing. I purchased these liners: Cat Litter Box Drawstring Liners 15-pk. - XL and the drawstring is great for keeping the liner in place and making the clean up job super easy. I highly recommend this box!

REDUCES ODOR, better than an uncovered litter box , but small and not perfect,
By EJG "Jean" (Franklin NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Petmate Booda Dome Litter Box, Titanium (Misc.)
This litter box is better than an uncovered litter box. It really reduces odors which is my reason for purchasing it. My Xena makes some powerful odor during the night hours and it smells up the bedroom enough to wake me up. She doesn't always cover. Since using the Booda dome, I have been able to sleep through the night. Even without the charcoal filter, the odor is so much less that I can get a night's sleep. Hooray! The charcoal filters do work better than without using them but are pricey so I just have to do without them. Can't have everything!
--Booda Dome is a bit small. Xena is a little larger than the average cat. She gets in, turns around and uses it with her head and shoulders outside the doorway. She's so cute. --I bought my first Booda, called a Booda Box back in the late 1970's. It had a huge lid that was about a third larger than the litter box on one end so that a cat could go under the lid and over into the litter box. I used it for years (and years) until the plastic became brittle and it started breaking up. It was great, probably even better than this dome. But that box had a problem that the dome also has -- the overlap of the lid onto the litter box should be reversed so that when a cat squirts onto the wall of the Booda, the liquid could drain INTO the litter box instead of leaking out onto the floor, making a mess on the side of the litter box, down to the floor and under the box where it gets really sticky, stinky before you find it. I would have thought that Booda would have fixed this DEFECT by now, they have to know there is this problem. It has been THIRTY YEARS! So Booda, if you see this, PLEASE reverse the overlap. The Top should fit INSIDE, NOT OUTSIDE the Bottom of the Booda Dome. --I don't use liners, never have found a way to make them work. My cats have always shredded them and made a mess. For me, it is easier to do without liners. ---I would recommend this Dome if your cat doesn't pee on the side of the box because it makes a huge mess, over and over again. My Xena is a little princess and she does fine, no messes for her. She loves this Booda Dome so much that for the first few days, she used it as litter box plus she slept in it. I tried taking the litter out to let her have it as her bed, but she quit sleeping in it. I put the litter back in and she stopped sleeping in it, just used it as a litter box. Fine with me. ----So I would recommend the Booda Dome if your cat isn't huge and doesn't spray the walls of the litter box. I would recommend this box if you want to lessen the bad odor. |
