I bought this for the 3-4 cats that live on my porch, for the winter. I also got the body-heat mat for the inside, and the door (I'm reviewing those on their own product pages).

I have uploaded a picture of the medium dogloo (Indigo Dog Home) with the door, and my cat Katrina, so maybe you can get a visual idea about size. She is maybe 5# IF that, a normal sized housecat breed.

I bought two of these, and they came together in the biggest box I've ever seen, holy cats! I didn't even know carrier services could deliver boxes that big. Four normal adults could have fit crouching in it! Info about the product:

* I was pleased to see the bottom section is deep enough that I didn't have to worry about rain 'sliding' into the doghouse, as my porch gets very puddle-ish in heavy rain.

* There is a vent area near the top back.

* There is no hole for the heater accessory, you have to drill one in the side of the cover, just fyi. (Purchase separately.)

* There are pre-made screw holes inside for the door (which is a soft flap that sits inside a few inches). (Purchase separately.)

* I saw other reviews about this somewhere, complaining about the "flimsiness" of the tabs that snap it together. There are a few on the dark bottom part 'inside' and a few on the white top part 'outside'. When my box arrived, one of the inner bottom tabs was snapped completely off and loose in the box. It really is just thin hard rubber and those tabs have a 'flex point' built in obviously to allow them to move a little, so those probably aren't real robust.

* I'm intending to 'duck tape' around the seam where the two pieces connect. I feel this will be better for temperature reasons and it wouldn't be that hard to just pull off if opening to clean. I think even if a couple of connective tabs snapped, duck tape would work it out. I'm not saying the product needs duck taping to work, I'm just saying that while the potential flimsiness of those connector tabs is a legit complaint for some folks, it's probably not something that would take much time/trouble to compensate for, IF it even came up for you.

* I do not yet know how the plastic will hold up to a serious freeze. I do know that the door isn't remotely a door and I'm going to have to do something else to drastically increase the warmth containment inside even in addition to a tiny-watt covered light custom-placed inside and the body-heat mat sold custom for the product.

* The doghouse seems pretty secure, and roomy inside. It's nice that the doorway is kind of 'extra' space. I'm hoping the shape of it will make it safer from the straightline winds we get here in the Ozarks, I don't want it blowing away! I think this is a good design.

The back half that has the body-heat mat sold for this should fit ~5 friendly cats just fine.

I thought that because the profile says "good for large dogs" it would be for a 50lb dog, but it's not. I have a chow mix, which isn't very big, he's about 48lbs and only comes up to my knees, but he can't fit through the door into this dog house. I thought I bought a large, but this company only sells Medium houses online. The product itself is fine if you have a medium dog <40lbs.

I wanted a weather proof house since I had no outside porches where a bed could be made for an outside cat. Unfortunately, the door on this house slopes toward the top of the house from the bottom which lets rain come in freely. When the plastic door is added, it acts just like a funnel for water since it hangs down into the house. I have even positioned it away from prevailing winds. All bedding got wet, and it is unusable during wet weather and a mess to clean out. It's too large to try and ship back, so I will probably donate it to the local Humane Society.

Last year I rescued a little black dog beside the road in the dead of winter. Even though I had the larger Igloo dog house for my other dog, Lucy would not snuggle up with him. She would lie on the grass, even in the very cold weather. I felt so sorry for her. My husband contended that it was just the way she behaved because of something in her previous years on this earth. I purchased this wonderful dog house not knowing if she would ever go near it. For several weeks it looked as though my husband was right. Then the unlikely happened. One cold night Lucy decided that dog house didn't look half bad. Once she realized that she had nothing to fear, she loves it. I especially like the fact that she can curl up over to the side away from the opening if she wants to. Thank you for making my little thrown away dog feel like she is home!!!!! Don't ever quit making this type of dog house. The others are not nearly as well designed or comfortable!!!

Got this (medium) model for my two Jack Russel Terriers direct from Petco as they had free shipping. It may not be the cheapest house (79) but, I guess now days it's good value compared to the competition. The size is perfect and the quality is very decent. It's heavy enough and the latches look like they'll hold up okay. The design shows at least there was thought put into the animals comfort. The floor is well braced and raised. All 'round the perimeter of the floor is a moisture drain channel and periodically drain/vent holes. The upper vent is a little flimsy but it seems like it can close for during the cold months. The dogs took to it right off!

Bought the Med Size for my 2 Beagles they both love it and it was a perfect size i highly recommend it for cold weather use...

Great Dog house the large can be had much cheaper at tractor supply and so can the extra-large didn't see the medium at my local tractor supply. Ninety-nine bucks for the LG and one hundred fifty for the XL can't beat that. I have the large for my two Jack Russels they seem to love it so far!

To begin with, this is a great dog house! Our dogs love the LARGE SIZE --even though they are medium-sized dogs. We read and read reviews, and decided that our dogs were medium size. When our houses arrived, we looked at them and said "too small!" Then, we saw a label on the top of the house -- for dogs 17" tall and 24" long. Well, we measured our dogs and they were too big by one inch each way. (Even if they had measured out correctly, they would not have fit in the houses!)
So,we are now own four Dog Houses -- two with dogs in, and two sitting in the barn waiting to be returned to our nearest Petco Store.(Shipping back is too expensive to contemplate!) When we return the two "too small houses" to the nearest Petco, we will receive a credit -- not our money back -- so our dogs are going to be eating what ever Petco has to use up our credit. And, it annoys me to have to travel miles to use up a credit! Yes, I know, we should have gone to Petco and bought/ordered the large size there -- but we needed dog houses ans we shop at Amazon.
We never had to return an item we bought on Amazon, so this is new to us. Beware! This may be one item you don't buy on-line (where we do 75% of our shopping-- because we live in the woods!) Look at the houses, can your dog get in here, can he curl up and be snug? In short, go to a store -- look and check sizes. You know your dogs, but the medium is for moderate sized cats!

But -- it's a great dog house. Just make sure your dog is not going to wear it as a turtle shell!
