I have attempted to move the pan closer to the waste bin, but the rake always pulls it back as it returns to its rest position.

I hate cleaning the litterbox, so after some careful consideration of my finances I figured a self-cleaning litter box would save me time, justifying the price of this device. I was wrong. Not only do you still have to change the disposable wastebags quite often and the disposable litter pan liner monthly (both being required purchases), but the litter pan liner is so poorly engineered that it doesn't fit the machine perfectly. Because of this, litter is constantly falling between the machine and the liner, and between the wastebag container and the opening it sits in, making you have to find some way of scooping out the difficult-to-pick-up litter from places that are inconvenient to reach with paper towels or brooms and dustpans. Add to this the fact that the rake constantly misses smaller pieces of clumped litter due to the spacing of the rake's teeth, and the fact that the rake doesn't even push all the used litter into the wastebag (thus causing the wastebin's cover to not always close properly) and you have a machine that takes more of your time to clean than it gives you time to do other things. With the addition of the required wastebag and litter pan liner purchases (which will occur monthly or so), and, of course, your regular litter purchases, you'll begin to see that this machine will cost you more money in the long run than your run-of-the-mill litter box and daily scoopings. On the plus side, because the litter is almost always clump-free, my cat enjoys using it more than the furniture. Does it justify the purchase? That depends on you and your cat. I'm glad he's not peeing on the couch anymore, but I could have spent that money elsewhere (like on a better-designed unit).Read more ›

I owned this litter box for about a year before I finally gave up and threw it away. The rake gets stuck up front if the liner doesnot go all the way in. I would tape the liner down up front and on the side so the rake would not get stuck up front. It still did then of course my cat would use it and when the rake decided to go back it push the clumps back. Then you would hav to take the machine apart clean it out then put it back together again and go through the whole procedure of taping the liner down. Three months of use and the motor stopped working. I called Petmate and they replaced it. Great, I thought, maybe with a new machine this won't happen, maybe that one had a malfunction or something. Well the first month everything ran smoothly. Then out of the blue it started doing everything the other one did, except this one didn't even acknowledge that my cat was in there and started to rake the litter while she was in there. It got to the point that my cat just stopped using the litter and started peeing right next to it or on my couch. So I decided to get a sifting litter box. I prefer to clean it that way then to have to deal with a malfunctioning machine. It was the worst $180.00 I have ever spent. It was more trouble than its worth.

We purshased this product from PetCo in late

November 2005. The product lasted a few weeks past the

warranty and died. I called the company and they told

me to cut the roller and send them the store receipt

for a new product replacement. I got a call today that

stated that it was past the warranty date and they can

not service it.

We paid over $200 for a product that lasted just a few

weeks past a year! If we knew that we would have

passed on making this purshase. This item is a "dog".

It never worked correctly and in the end it just died.

We did not ask for our money back but we wanted a new

one since they asked us to take this one appart. Now

no one can fix it at all. They should have informed us

before they asked us to cut the rollers. Now it's just

junk! I know this product is NEW (only on the market a

few years) but perhaps it needs to be tested for the

long hall. Not worth it if it dies after a year.

We have informed PetCo about this product and now we

are reporting them to the BBB in case anyone else has

the same issues we had with this product. We also plan

on reporting it to as many Pet blogs as we can find

and let people know what a "dog" they are getting for

the cost.

I have owned one of these for about 4 years and it is wonderful! I have 2 cats, one is very, very picky about the cleanliness of the cat box. If the other cat has used it recently he won't and would sometimes "go" next to the box. (I had a 672 sq. ft. apt and didn't have room for 2 boxes). Since I got the Purrforma that has not happened. What is more there is no "cat box" smell, a bonus in a small apt. I recently moved out of that apartment to a house and the movers did not know I had cats because there was no cat box smell.

I have to change the bags about every 3 days BUT that is about all I have to do to it during those 3 days except to check litter levels. BTW you will save money on litter with this cat box because you are not changing the litter out as often.

Yes, it does miss some of the smaller bits but that is not that big of a problem really (at least in my case). Just take 5 minutes to sift it when changing the waste bag.

As far as the liner goes if you do not seat it properly in the slot provided and use the velcro tabs you will have problems with litter being pushed out. You will also have a problem if you overfill the litter box (which from reading the first reviewers description sounds like what he did). Also even though they recommend changing the liner every month I do not and can go up to 3 months without changing it and have had no problems.

It has been durable, reliable product with no breakdowns for the years I have used it. My cats like it and use it. I will buy another once this one wears out.
