Did the job,
This review is from: Petmate Soft-Sided Pet Taxi, Black (Misc.)
This carrier was great - successfully transported the family's 15 lb cat on two airplanes for a total of over 1000 miles. It was a little small, but the cat was comfortable for the majority of the trip, especially once the "Rescue Remedy" solution kicked in. [Search for this if you're traveling with your pet - it really works!] My only caution is that if your pet has front claws, they may be able to rip the mesh to shreds and escape, but this was not a problem for my de-clawed cat. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to others.

My cat loved Pet Taxi...,

I recently purchased the Pet Taxi to transport a large 9 pound cat on Northwest Airlines. It fit fine under the seat on NWA. My cat loved the Pet Taxi so much that he used it to sleep in. The fabric is sturdy enough that my cat could not scratch and break it. There is plenty of mesh so that my cat could see out, yet the back piece was solid so he could turn that way, if he was feeling shy. The bottom had a fleece covered sturdy pad that does not bend. It was easy to carry with the shoulder stap and handles. For the price, this was a good buy and I recommend it.

Excellent product and description, the bag fitted well although tightly, under the US Airways plane seat, plenty of room for our 11 lb Yorkie, he was able to move and circle around in it, lots of vents for him to see through, easy zipper pull, great product!

I used to have one big plastic carrier for two cats but it was way too heavy. This is really nice and the cats love it.

This is our second Petmate Soft Sided Pet Taxi. We recently acquired a new puppy and needed another carrier. I like the ease of getting the pets in and out without hassle with the option of using the opening on the top or on the end. The sides give ventalation on the warm days and allows our pets to see what is going on around them. We all appreciate the removable, washable cover that covers the support board in the bottom of the carrier. This carrier has a sturdy carry strap. I found this to be a carrier that meets all our needs. Please don't discontinue this carrier.

Good product,

This is an overall good pet carrier. I like how it folds down for easy storage and has both top and side access areas. The top access area makes it easy to touch your pet or let their head pop out. My only concern is that the mesh looks kind of weak, so if I had a dog or cat who was really determined to get out, they could scratch/chew it apart. Otherwise, it worked perfectly for us.

I had a hard time finding just the right carrier at a decent price. I have an 18-pound Jack Russell. He just barely fits the airline dimensions and it wasn't easy to find a bag that would accommodate his weight and the dimensions. This bag did it though. It doesn't have a lot of pockets and wheels would have been nice but it did offer maximum interior space for my little guy to be comfortable. It is soft-sided so it squeezed under the seat. With the mesh sides, he could have air circulation and could see. I liked the top opening so I could let him pop his head out in the airport (although he's required to stay inside). One zipper handle broke already but the zipper still works. The carrier didn't seem too sturdy at first so I was pleasantly surprised that it survived the trip without any other tears or damage. My little guy wasn't too thrilled about being closed into the bag but now that he sees it means a new adventure, he gets very excited to see his travel bag come out!

Wish I hadn't waited so long to buy this carrier.
I have hard-sided cat carriers, but they are awkward at times. This one is lightweight, lets the cat look around while I drive. Certainly worth the money. My cats take turns napping in it.

First, I would like to say that this is indeed a very nice pet carrier for cats and small dogs. Long story short: my cat was able to claw her way out of the carrier. The mesh is soft but also not very strong. Read on for the full story.
My two cats were jumping in them almost as soon as I unzipped them, and they even slept in them on occasion. I left them out for a few days before my flight and the cats seemed comfortable with them. My trip happened in two stages: first a 1 1/2 hour car ride to get to the airport hotel, then an 8 hour flight a couple days later. While the cats weren't exactly pleased to be moved around, they tolerated the car ride fairly well and one just curled up and slept on the fuzzy cushion that came inside the carrier. When we arrived at the hotel, I noticed there was a small hole in the side of one of the carriers. It wasn't very big, maybe the size of a dime, but the cat had somehow been able to bite/claw through the netting. One of the cats is declawed, one has claws; the one that created the hole is the one with claws. In order to avert a mid-air disaster, I had my vet prescribe Xanax for one of the two cats (the one with claws) to help keep her calm during the flight. I also swapped out carriers, so the cat with claws was in the one without the hole. We checked in at the airport and boarded the flight. Both carriers fit beneath the seats, however because there were power outlets under all seats in my cabin, the carrier didn't fit entirely under the seat and stuck out slightly. A few hours after takeoff, the cat with claws woke up and began meowing and making noise. In an effort to calm her, I put a blanket over the carrier so she could curl up in the dark. After a little while, she stopped making noise (I was sleeping at this point). Next thing I know, the flight attendants call "whoever brought a cat as a carry-on" to the back of the plane. I get there and am told that I am not allowed to open the pet carriers while on the flight. I state that I haven't. I'm then told that I must have, since my cat is now running around the cabin of the plane. I go back to the seat and see that she has somehow created a pretty large hole in the front of the carrier (mesh side). I immediately head up to the first class cabin, where she was last seen. My sister, multiple flight attendants, and I all spend the next half hour trying to quietly go through all cabins (on a 777 at approximately 2am EST) to find the cat. Eventually we find her curled up in first class. Because we couldn't exactly put her back into the carrier with a giant hole, we had to hold her on our laps, wrapped in a blanket. Even though the flight attendants weren't supposed to allow this, they agreed that it wouldn't end well if we put her back in the carrier. Finally we got some duct tape and taped over the hole. We were able to get her back into the carrier and make it through customs, and she was fine after that. As I said, the carrier works really well for any animals that don't have the ability to cut the mesh. I had trimmed her claws earlier that day, so they didn't even have sharp hooks. The cat without claws will still curl up and sleep in the carrier. I just realized that I need something sturdier (or indestructible) for the other cat. |
