this POS is manufactured in India and rusted at the poor quality weld points. Rusting got progressively worse, and it started leaking after 8 months. Also, it doesn't have a flow limiting orifice, so water flows out to base too fast => have to refill more frequently. Someone should make a high quality, dishwasher safe product with ceramic base with flow limiting orifice, and a glass reservoir.

I purchased two of these - both of them do the same thing, you fill up the gallon water bottle put it back on the base and the water fills up the water dish and then still continues to dispense the water until you have the gallon dispenser empty and water all over your floor. I have had the plastic feeders which worked great but wanted to replace them with metal ones because those are more sanitary when it comes to bacteria, but I'm going back to the other feeders for the time being because I would like my pets to have water and not my hardwood floors.

I'm giving 3 stars because the bottom part is really good, but the plastic bottle sucks. It is hard to remove once you put into the base. It almost lock into the base.
I tried to remove and when I did the plastic broke.
I expect they make a glass bottle for that.
The use of stainless steel and ceramic is because bacteria can grow on the pores of the plastic. It doesn't make sense you have a fountain that is stainless steel if the bottle is plastic. Same for the automatic fountains. People buy those thinking there are helping the dog but end of all the filter and the pump are made out of plastic, so you'll still have the chance to have bacteria growing on the fountain.
I'm still looking for the glass bottle, while I can't find it I'm using an old bottle I had from an old fountain (plastic also)

*** new review: be careful when you wash the metal part
While I was taking care of the food of the pets I had asked my husband wash by hand the water container, he cut his hand with the top metal part. I always washed putting my hand from the bottom because my hand is small enough but my husband's hand doesn't fit from the bottom so he tried to wash the inside of the bowl from the top (note: top part can't be removed). The cut was pretty bad.

Pros...looks nice,holds a decent amount of water.
Cons....leaks, I put thick bumpers under the front feet, it seems to help with the leaking. I believe the bowl gets to full.

This waterer was very disappointing. It worked perfect once. After that the reservoir overflowed every time and it would not stop emptying the jug.

I bought this to replace the Petmate plastic pet waterer, which has a small hole to prevent it from leaking. This has a wide opening and the entire gallon of water leaked on the kitchen floor. JUNK. AVOID IT!

So I purchased this in December. I have ttwo dogs & a cat and we go thru a TON of water in a day. I originally liked this because of the stainless steal bowl. However after only about a month, the seam between the bottom of the bowl & the top split & the bottle cracked leaking nearly a gallon of water on the kitchen floor.

Shoddy. Save your money.

This stainless steel water tower is easy to clean and extremely sturdy. Unlike the plastic version that discolors and degrades, this version will look brand new 10 years later. The bottle holder is tack welded to the base - you can easily break the welds without damaging the base, making cleaning a lot easier. The bottle holder only fits to one side of the base, and pops back in without any problem. This is definitely worth the extra money.

got it and then washed it then filled it with water and set it down on the floor, My wife said why is the floor all wet ? I said I;m not sure and I saw the water bowl overflowing and send the water out of the bottle. I could hear a small noise and it as because the was a pin hole in the middle of the bottle... DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL DOA from the inc !!!!!!!!!!
