Cord I received did not match the picture (grey,heavy-duty flat ribbon cable) and more importantly was not rated for 15 amps. Instead the cord was a thinner, round, white cable and the sheathing on the cable was marked as only 18 gauge. The sealed plastic bag the extension cord came in had the correct part number (Petra 15-0303) so I don't know if this is a one time mistake or not. I returned the item and will seek another cable elsewhere. If you buy please check the wire gauge to make sure it is heavy duty enough (should be 14 AWG for 15 amps)

My new vacuum's cord is too short so I added this extension and am delighted for more reasons than you'd expect. My old vacuum cord was 30' and the Dyson cord is only 24' so I was faced with having to replug it when I only needed a little more length. It occurred to me that an appliance quality extension should do the trick and 9' offered not only the extra 6' I was used to but an additional 3' that allows me to clean extra places I couldn't before--an added benefit. I should have thought to use an extension like this on the old vacuum too.

So I've now got the range I want without miles of extra cord to deal with, but an unexpected advantage to this cord is that because it has the 90 degree wall plug in, it doesn't pull out of the wall like the vacuum cord itself is likely to and did many times. The connection end to the vacuum cord is snug so it doesn't detach either if it gets caught on something and pulled. Because that plug end is rather bulky and the cord itself is not super flexible, it does sometimes get hung up on a chair leg or something, but is easy to shake free and I have confidence that I'm not harming it or the vacuum. I also appreciate that since the cord is a bit thicker and stiffer, it's not likely to pull under a door and get stuck like the actual vacuum cord does. All in all, I'm delighted and am only sorry I didn't think of this solution years ago. It makes my vacuuming chore so much easier.

The 12' extension cord is perfect! I was tempted to buy one at a local hardware store so I could see and feel to make sure it was well made but it would have cost $20 or more. This Petra appliance extension cord looked good in the photos and for $4.67, it was worth the gamble. I had my computer and accessories plugged into a Belkin Surge Protector (4156 joules) but the red warning light was on. The socket was unprotected! I then plugged my recent APC battery backup (with surge protection)... same results... red light "not protected". I had two choices. I could call an electrician and have the wall outlet rewired so it would be safe or I could buy a 12' extension cord and plug things into another outlet via the extension cord. The cord is rated at 15 amps... good! I then plugged the APC battery backup into the cord... no red light, then I plugged the Belkin surge protector into the APC... no red light! I have no concern that my computer, printer, a laptop, two or more external drives are nowhere near the 1500 watt capacity of the cord. I feel much more comfortable about my computer now. Just last week, we lost power... an underground cable broke causing a ground fault. We were without electricity for about ten hours and nothing was damaged... some of my neighbors were not as fortunate... their power was off for two days and when restored, they had lost several of their appliances... a refrigerator, televisions, and worst of all, one neighbor's computer was totally wiped out! I could just see how I would have coped with a situation like that. It was time to get my surge protection functioning properly and I did! This is one good quality extension cord!

I'm giving it only one star because it's not the same cord as in the picture and because it's not UL rated as claimed. I complained to Amazon and have received a refund. Amazon said it would take ten days to get the refund because I paid with my checking account, but the money was in my account the next day.

I'm not the only person who received a different cord than the one in the picture. Other buyers have had the same complaint. The cord I received is white and has a round cord, unlike the grey square cord in the picture. Also, both plug ends have entirely different styling and numbers, and there no UL certification on the cord. The Amazon page claims that the cord is UL listed, but there's no UL marking on the cord, although the manufacturer website claims that the cord is UL listed. The only certification on the cord itself is "Intertek Listed".

There's no indication that the cord I was sent was made by Petra. The manufacturer is Ningbo Ousheng Electronics Co., Ltd in China.

The cord has the following markings on it:

Type SVT (Wikipedia says that this means it's rated "Severe Service Cord - 600 volts (also 277/480 or 480) - May be utilized in place of SJ in extra-severe service", vacuum cleaners, and thermoplastic)
18 AWG
300V
VW-1 (flame retardant)

I only bought this cord to use with my Kill-A-Watt meter for measuring electricity consumption of various devices in my house, including electric space heaters. A quality cord is vital for the space heaters. I don't trust a cord that's been misrepresented like this one and didn't have time to wait for another one, so I went to my local Home Depot and bought a 12-gauge UL-listed cord. It cost $13.
