Each of Barbara Nadel's books in the Inspector Ikmen series are police thrillers that deal with somewhat grisly and "sicko" topics (supposedly pulled from the local Turkish headlines). Don't let this scare you away - if you're OK with CSI then you'll be fine with the topics of these novels.

I enjoy how these books allow the reader to be immersed in the mysterious and intriguing world of everyday life in Istanbul (and in some of the later novels - other parts of Turkey as well). Having been lucky enough to travel to this marvelous city I am immediately transported there when reading these books.

Overall, Nadel's novels are exciting, fast paced and very entertaining. I heave read all in the Inspector Ikmen series and they involve the same characters from earliest to latest published.

Have you ever thought of traveling abroad by reading mysteries? The detectives are all dedicated,but the procedures are different, the culture is different, the crimes are not quite the same, because crimes relate to culture, like everything we do.
Barbara Nadel novels are an excellent introduction to Turkey. Inspector Ikmen in this book is a bit overwhelmed by family problems, friends problems, and a series of crimes that are utterly mad and disgusting, but he will follow this to the bitter end. In the meantime, you will be moving in the streets of Istambul like it is your town.
