My puppy loves to sleep with the Cuddle Pal and then play with it during the day.

I wouldn't recommend it for a large breed dog, as it would be too small and a larger breed dog could easily destroy this, but for a dog the size of our is it great!

You can heat it up in the microwave so that its nice and warm before you leave it in the kennel with your puppy for the night or when you are out.

Im surprised that this item has not caught on its a great concept!! I came across this item before I left for canada to pick up a puppy and decided to take it with me. I brought it up there and had all the puppies in her litter play with red dog as hes called around here. I then had her breeder rub it in her hands and before I boarded the place I placed it in a ziploc bag for the plane ride home (she flew home on my lap) when I got home I brought it out of the bag after she had met all her new dog family members and you could see the difference in her it was like she never left her litter mates!!! You can heat it up for 30 in the microwave and put it in the crate with them and its like they are sleeping with their littermates. She loves her red dog!! Even after 2 years he will disappear (under a couch or bottom of a toybox) for awhile and then make a reappereance and she gets soo excited to see him again! I have never washed him so I cant tell you how he wears but after 2 years he looks pretty darn good...minus a tail that was lost to teething!! I love this item and when she has her puppies each one that leaves will be going home with their puppy cuddle aka red dog to help make the transistion easier and less tramatic!!

First, this toy is about as big as a large hand: if you are under the impression that it is large enough for a weaned puppy to lie on, look elsewhere! It is not a mat, but more of a small, flat, squarish stuffed animal. It might be small enough for a very young puppy, though ~ one not yet weaned.

That said, our puppy loves it. I gave it to the breeder to handle before taking new puppy home ~ as another reviewer suggested ~ and puppy was very sniffily pleased to encounter the warmed cuddle pal before her first bedtime in her new home.

We warm this each night and while I can't say it has "soothed" her in any noticeable way, puppy loves to shake and wrestle with this toy during playtime.

I got a new puppy 2 days ago and the first night was a bit stressful. He didn't sleep most of the night, which means I didn't sleep either.

Yesterday I bought this cuddle pal, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and put it in the puppy's crate. He instantly laid on it, closed his eyes and was off to sleep. I thought this cuddle pal had magical powers and it was the best 6 bucks I have spent on a puppy toy.

My female Moxie had 4 puppies. I purchased this red dog for each puppy so that the transition from me to their new owner wouldn't be so bad. The minute these pups were born, I put 4 of these inside their box. They slept with them, so all the puppies had their scents on each one. When I sold a pup, the red dog would go with him. I kept two of the pups so I have two of these little red dogs. My little female learned how to tear the velcro closure open and got the beanbag out of it. She would rather play with the bean bag than the dog. She is a year old now and still carries the little red bean bag around. She likes to pull stuffing out of her toys but so far, the bag has not been penetratable. There are no holes and no escaped beans. The bean bag can be heated in the microwave for a little bit to warm the beans and can be placed with the puppy or dog so they stay warm. Or, you can freeze the bean bag for an hour and let the puppy use it in the summer to cool off. This is a great toy. My little male has not torn his up, he still sleeps with his in the car.

This was purchased for our Golden Retriever puppy. She was only 8 weeks old when we received it. Would probably work for small dogs but our dog tore it to pieces in a few weeks time. Would make a great chew toy but there are a lot of tiny pieces of material inside. Debris was everywhere.

I purchased this as a cuddle toy for our new puppy. I took it along when we picked up the puppy and I let his litter mates play with it for awhile (read that in a review). At bedtime, I warmed it up and placed it with the puppy. It worked like a charm, he slept though the night without a whimper! Now, 6 weeks later, its still his favorite toy and can really hold up to a chewer and many tug-o-wars. He does love to chew the back to try to get to the beans inside, so I just spray the seam with bitter apple and he leaves it alone.

UPDATE October 2008: Well, it's STILL his favorite toy (and longest lasting!!). I did have to remove the beans because he discovered how to open the back, but he loves to play with this toy.

My puppy really likes his pet pal and even though he tugs at it or shakes it alot, it's held up well. Very sturdy product.

The item was a little smaller than I expected, I didn't read the dimensions. But I really needed something to help my pup recover from being taken from his litter mates. This was perfect, you just heat up the inside pouch for 30 seconds in the microwave, put the pouch back in the cuddle pal and lay the pal either on or next to the puppy. My pup would shiver for a while as he was falling asleep, even with me next to him, after I started using this, his shivering stopped. I don't heat it up anymore, but he likes chewing on its tail as he is falling asleep. I would recommend this to anyone with a new pup, especially a young one.
