5.0 out of 5 stars Finest Vc ever scored, July 24, 2008
This review is from: Pettersson: Violin Concerto No. 2 / Suite from Barefoot Songs (Audio CD)
and its totally unknown. Most serious classicphiles have not ever heard the name Pettersson. Pettersson has some decades to become knwon. Most people are stuck in the dark ages with Beethoven and Brahms. 2 composers I never liked since my early days 1980. Thankfully by sheer *luck* and intense seeking, I discovered Pettersson. A guy ona message board made a slight reference to AP and I noticed the word he used was *harrowing* in reference to P's 2nd sym. 1998 that word struck me, *Harrowing... now thats something I would like*, the rest is history.

The Naxos 2nd VC is good, this Cappriccio is exceptional.

very sad to see its long OOP, and well worth any asking price.

Thankfully I bouth my copy 6 yrs ago for $40 or $50, can;t recall.

One hour non stop intensity.

I know all the late 20th century vc's. Shosty's 2nd with Oistrakh, all 3 recordings, I thought was the pinnacle of the concerto for violin.

I had the Pettersson's 12th on my shelf for 4 yrs and felt I could not grasp the totality of the dimensions, one hour non stop instensity was too much. A few months ago I pulled it off the shelf.

Crushing, riveting, and as with all Pettersson, *hearing is believing*, simply beyond any descriptives and the wildest imaginations.

Pettersson defies lingusitic cognates, that is the music has to be experienced. Which is why none of my reviews waste time attempting to explain how the music sounds.

If you love the romantics, Pettersson is not for you. I've yet to find any romanticphile speaking any words in favor for Pettersson.

Like Petterrson said, *my music is the language of the soul* And truly it is so, of the soul.

The Soul is alive in us and music is one way to reach the soul. Music must be alive to speak. Old wineskins rarely contain living musical forms.
