3.0 out of 5 stars Clunky interface, time moves fast
I bought this for my 6 yr old. She has no interest in the story line and just wants to work with the horses, but the game pushes you to keep doing the story line for quite a while before it finally allows you to just work with the horses. A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Petz Horsez 2 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
I have played all the horse games...ever!!! Time to Ride, Champion Dreams, Horsez, Horsez 2, Dreamer, Lets's Ride Champion Collectin, Let's Ride Rosemond Hill, Lets Ride Silver Buckle Stables, I'v played them all. But this has to be the best one since. I love that because of the dif choices you make the dif the game will end. I have to say that they do put you in some pretty difficult situations at some points. But the way that they based it seems so real-a-listic. I ride horses in real life, so I love all these horse games, but I have to say that this one so far as been the best. I really enjoyed the story line that they based it on. The owner of the stud farm dissapeared, now it's up to you to make the choices and see were the twist and turns lead you. !!!Each time you play you will most likely have a dif ending!!! !#!ONE MORE THING!#! DO NOT GET THIS GAME UNLESS YOU HAVE A DVD DRIVER !#! IT WILL NOT WORK !#! I loves it reall the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greastest game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 10, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Petz Horsez 2 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
this game was so good and the graphics were amamazing. You can make different choices and the adventure will take different twists. I've played it once and now I'm playing it again making new choices. Once you finish the adventure you can choose if you want to do free mode or not. basically the mayor wants the stud farm and will do anything to get and i mean anything. you must stop him while taking care of your horses to save the stud farm! you can enter competitions to earn tokens and you can go shopping in the village to buy cool new stuff. i totally recommend this game to anyone who loves horses!

I bought this for my 6 yr old. She has no interest in the story line and just wants to work with the horses, but the game pushes you to keep doing the story line for quite a while before it finally allows you to just work with the horses. At this point, my daughter is working with the horses and ignoring the constant reminder that she's supposed to go find an apartment. From the front menu you can just ride on the trail coarse. It would be nice if they had added the ability to also groom, feed, train, etc.. At this point, it feels like a heavily cutscened and linear RPG with the ability to work with horses tacked on. I personally feel it should be a game about working with horses with an RPG tacked on.

The interface is clunky and often non-obvious. Riding, jumping, and movement are all handled via keyboard, with no option to use any other device (mouse/gamepad). The only time you can use a mouse is when you are doing chores. I think a gamepad would make the competitions significantly more enjoyable, and would recommend getting this game for a console instead of PC for this reason. I'm planning to try using a software emulator to make the game think my Logitech gamepad is giving keyboard commands. I think that will make the interface easier to deal with.

The days are VERY short. 1 real second ~= 1 game minute. When you have 6 horses, and half of them are sick (they are every day), and you have to exit/re-enter the stables for each horse, its difficult to get all the chores done, let alone train the horses. And if you want to go to market day that basically takes the entire day and no chores get done at all.

Overall, the game has some design flaws that could easily have been overcome, but its still enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect game for any horse lover!, May 13, 2011

I've played many horse games and this is by far the best. It's really addicting because you never know what is going to happen next. I've played it for hours at a time and had to quit when I realized how late it has gotten. The story or stories of the game are really great and fun. Depending on what choices you make in the game determines the outcome. The horses on the game are great. You can breed and raise your foals. You can train your horses for competition and win money to shop with on market days or at the shops in the village. The best horse game out there. It's definitely worth it. So buy it! What are you waiting for? lol. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Petz Horsez 2, September 12, 2010
This review is from: Petz Horsez 2 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
Before the review here is a list of the Pippa Funnell Horse Game Series this being the 4th game in the series...

Pippa Funnell 1: The Stud Farm Inheritance (Saddle Up with Pippa)
Pippa Funnell 2: Takes the Reins (Champion Dreams: First to Ride)
Pippa Funnell 3: The Golden Stirrups Challenge (Horsez)
Pippa Funnell 4: Secrets of the Ranch (Horsez 2)
Pippa Funnell 5: Ranch Rescue (Petz Horse Club)

This game was really fun, It's a continuation of the previous games and mainly tells the story of a girl named: Emma and continues Flora's, Miguel's, and Caroll's story. It was way better than Horsez for a variety of reasons, Especially because Horsez had a set storyline but in this one you have choices, It's a choose-your-own-adventure where your choices contribute to the outcome of the game... So once you finished you can play it again and have new stuff happen and have different endings.

I have read a few reviews on horse games where the people are upset because it was an adventure game and you couldn't just take care of a horse and have competitions, But in this game you have both because after you finish the game you are given an option to restart the story or you can just keep playing without story and basically do nothing but compete in the competitions and take care of your horse and go riding, Buy stuff, Win stuff, etc... The same game, Only without a story as I have found some people prefer.

If you have played Horsez which is the game previous to this you will remember how when you had to clean out the stall you would have to pick up each piece of hay or other with the pitch fork and individually move it to the wheel burrow, But in this game you can pick up 5 pieces of hay at a time and put it down five pieces at a time and it saves you a lot of time.

I especially like the fact that your horses don't get hungry or dirty if you don't use them, So when the foal is born you don't have to take care of it at all because you don't use it. Also if you have a couple of horses and you have only been riding a certain horse, You will not have to clean or feed the other horses because you haven't used them. This feature is EXTREMELY good because I've played other horse games where you have about 8 horses and have to clean them all everyday! Which is why this version is so great without it.

Also if you ever get tired of a horse you can sell it and get tokens to buy stuff in return.

This game was great because of it's better features, Better story, And you have more freedom in that you can go somewhere by clicking on your map and clicking a location then it will take some time off your clock and it will transport you to the location you clicked on... You will have the ability to do this after you ride your horse through those areas, Then it will be added to your map and you can just click on it, instead of riding all the way there.

To sum it up this game was a good adventure game. I would reccomend it for tweens and early teens. But then again it really depends on the individual who has their own likes and dislikes in games despite age limits.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected ...., November 29, 2007

First off, I didn't need the 10 minute story about how the girl gets to the farm, and every time I start the game. The graphics are okay, but not spectacular, as I was thinking they would be. Movements for everyone is done by the keyboard, not the mouse. Here again, I'm more comfortable with using the mouse than the up and down arrows on my keyboard. The music throughout the game is really good, it's very soothing and easy to listen to as you play. I haven't gotten very far with it, and I'm sure the farther along I go in the game the more things I will experience. The game is not like the other Petz games I've owned - which is kinda disappointing. But overall - so far it's a good game - not as addicting as some of the others I've played.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really Kiddy, September 25, 2011

I am an adult who loves horse games; but just a warning, this is NOT something adults like myself will enjoy. The graphics are really, really bad. The horses look like some kind of mutant species. This would be a great for kids who do not care about graphics. I played 3 minutes of it and now it's just going to collect dust.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get it for the Wii, September 23, 2011
This review is from: Petz Horsez 2 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
I chose the PC version over the Wii version as I generally prefer PC versions. However, had I known that this was simply a bad emulation of their Wii version, I would have gone with the Wii. The controls are obviously ported from the programming done for the Wii version and it does not translate very well. It is playable but I would strongly urge anyone to get it for Wii.
As far as game play and story go it does seem alright. I'm more pleased with it than I expected to be. I have not gotten very far into it and thus have not gotten to the breeding aspect which is what prompted me to try it though. The controls as far as the horse and competitions go, while would be much better on the Wii, are workable. Some of the programming is a bit off for the jumping portion in my opinion. It's not as good with the controls in that regard as the Let's Ride game.
Also as I'm playing it on a Windows 7 machine it has some severe clipping issues with the graphics. Yet another reason to go with the Wii version. The video options are extremely limited as well as far as a computer game goes.
For it's time it does seem to be a decent horse game and if the breeding portion is as good as has been mentioned in other reviews I'll be very pleased. I'm still searching for a good horse breeding game. I do hope that Ubisoft decides to release another title for Horsez with newer graphics engine and video options. They seem to be the only company producing any horse games for America with breeding and showing involved.

I purchased the game for my Granddaughter because she loves horses. We expected a lot of horse interaction games. So far the girl in the game is riding a invisible horse! Lots of story telling and it takes a while to get from one part of the game to the next in a lot of areas because waiting. Game is harder than i thought it would be to play. There is no curser during most of the game so you are stuck .... I had to turn computer off to get out of the game. The graphics are very good and so is the sound. I do wish I would have purchased a different game though.
