I got this headlamp free from work. I had an option between this and another brand. I immediately went with the Petzl. Usually a solid choice...right??? Being a wildland fire fighter for the last ten years, an avid duck hunter and camper In my off time.. I have been through some headlamps. Petzl usually delivers on a decent product.. But like anything you pay for what you get. Of course they offer the $20-$50 dollar gas station type head lamps.. Every brand does. But i was shocked when I looked up the price on this. A $100 is a joke! I currently utilize the Petzl MYO RXP. Same price.. way better quality. Half the size, more lighting options, 3 battery (AA). If any one is contemplating buying this Duo LED 5, please look up the MYO. You won't be disappointed.
Ok back to this head lamp.. Everything has that cheap plastic feel. The battery pack is huge and bulky. The bulbs offer led and halogen, but neither are impressive. One nice feature is that you can adjust the halogen for distance but it' really does not make a big difference. The front part (where the light illuminates) is in a fixed position. You can not adjust it to the angle you want. The inner parts that hold the bulbs are all cheaply made. I could continue but I think you understand my distaste for this particular petzl.
Again I got this free today... So if after using it for awhile it changes my mind, I will retract this review. But if I would have paid money for it, I would have put it back in the mail after 5 minutes. Hope this helps. And again check out the MYO RXP. I love mine.
