light and powerful.,

This review is from: Petzl E02 P e+LITE Emergency Headlamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
Purchased the Petzl e+lite headlamp Eo2 for sailing at night. Fantastic product. The headlamp offers a small clip to fasten to your clothing or hat brim and an adjustable strap allows you to wear it around your head, arm or wrist. The light's beam swivels and is infinitely adjustable with selector switch for either red or white led lights. Red light saves your night vision and is bright enough to be useful. Features low (economy) or bright (full power) white light and a strobe function for red and white light. Stows in small plastic case. I used this light for one evening (10) ten hours. Don't know how long the batteries will last. With extra batteries, this headlamp will replace any standard flashlight that you now rely upon for most chores. I will purchase a couple more as a glove box item in our cars. Would make a great gift for hunters, boaters, campers, etc.

Great Ultralight Headlamp,
By
This review is from: Petzl E02 P e+LITE Emergency Headlamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have purchased ten of these. They are more durable than other ultralight headlamps, such as the Black Diamond Ion, because the switch is more solid, and the whole thing is very watertight. The battery is easy to change, because the battery cover has a slot the size of a battery, so you use a battery as a screwdriver to open the cover.
The e+Lite deals with multiple modes better than other lights. Other lights cycle through the modes, where the e+Lite switch can be moved directly between On (dim) and Off. The red flashing mode is good as a helmet taillight when bicycling. The strap is thin, but adjusts and holds the light well. The cap-mount feature is solid. The self-stand feature is useful, but limited because it requires delicate balance. The batteries last longer than you'd expect, given that it is as bright as any typical three led light. As the battery wears out the High setting eventually equals the Dim setting. The Dim setting is appropriate for reading a book, and I've read hundreds of pages with it. The light tilts well, but you have to place it on your head right-side up; it won't tilt down if it is upside down, as an Ion and some other headlamps will. The great thing is, it fits unnoticed in your pocket. Truly ultralightweight.

WOW I just received the results of my internet search for a suitable headlamp/flashlight for kayaking.
The Petzl E02 P e+LITE is waterproof (not just water resistant) to 1 m. Uses a lithium watch battery (good for 35-45 hours of usage, up to 10 years storage). The entire thing, strap included fits into a case about the size of a two Bic lighters taped together! This allows me to comfortly place it within my PFD. If you don't want to use the adjustable strap, it has a clip to place it on a hat or clothing. By the way, the strap can be adjusted to fit anything headsize and smaller. For example, I could strap it to my kayak's rod holder. When I looked at the picture, I thought that the strap and small light would not stay on my head well. To the contrary, it makes it a more natural connection. It's light weight and the adjustable strap makes it snug or loose (however you want it). It has 5 light settings from the 3 white LEDs and 1 red LED. Low, High, flashing white, flashing red, and red. The dim light is perfect for the kayak area and lights up to 16 m if you want to see around you. After testing it, I would not think of using a larger (brighter) version for kayaking or anything else. Petzl makes brighter and larger versions, but I don't know if I really need more light. I was skeptical on buying small because my experience with LED headlamps is that they are usually dimmer than I want. If you do buy a larger (brighter) Petzl, keep in mind that most of them are water resistant. Only a couple of other models besides this one are waterproof. It's even got a ball hinge which enables it to be positioned in any direction. Left, Right, Down, Up... you get it. The ball hinge also lets you turn the lights around toward the clip when you put it away. This protects the lights when in storage. I have not been this wowed since I opened the box of my IPod. Even the batteries are cheap. Amazon has 12 of the batteries for $10 with free shipping. That makes it easy to carry a spare or two as they are about the size of a nickle and last up to 10 years in storage.

The Petzl e+LITE is a tiny, bright, and useful emergency headlamp. Stash one in your emergency kit, backpack, or car. The multiple modes for the white and red LEDs is a nice touch, as is the included carry case. It runs on lithium coin cell batteries, so cold weather and long-term storage shouldn't give you any trouble. Unfortunately the light is not regulated by electronics, so a spare set of batteries is good to keep around. Still, for the size this puts out a lot of light! Good stuff.

Great backup light,

This review is from: Petzl E02 P e+LITE Emergency Headlamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I use this headlamp primarily for backup purposes. I travel with one, and I also stick one in the car for emergencies. The lithium coin-type batteries are easy to obtain/replace, and the fact that they are lithium means they have a long shelf-life -- perfect for backup.
I've given out a bunch of these as gifts and the recipients seemed to use the light as a primary headlamp; they were very satisfied with its performance. I think there are better headlamps for off-trail use but in a pinch or as a backup this one can't be beat. I do feel that it is a bit pricey, however.

Awesome headlamp,

I was skeptical of getting a headlamp -- I thought it would be annoying and clunky, not worth strapping to my head rather than holding in my hand. Not true at all! This headlamp is super light, with a thin strap; while camping, I forgot I was wearing it. The switch is easy to use and has plenty of off stops (so you don't have to click past "bright white" to turn it off). It was perfect for walking on the established path between the campsite and the lake; it was also just right for reading in my tent and for checking under the seats before returning a rental car. I love that it has both white and red settings (so you can preserve your night vision for stargazing), and I figure the flashing settings will be handy at some point for making me visible when walking on dark streets. I don't think I'd be comfortable walking through the woods (without a path) with this light -- on its high beam, it may not be bright enough to keep a careful eye both on the ground and on eye-level branches. But I haven't tried, and it might be fine. I think this headlamp is perfect for anyone who doesn't want a floodlight when camping and hiking.

Great Light! Priced Right!,
By
This review is from: Petzl E02 P e+LITE Emergency Headlamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently pick up this e+Lite and have been very happy with it. I love all of the different modes its has....Dim, Bright, Flashing Red or White. It is super small, you can easily forget you have it on and the batteries have lasted me a couple night outings with no signs of weakening.
It comes with a small travel case that keeps it clean and safe when not in use and the case has a belt clip on it so you can attach it to your belt or backpack. I have not tried yet, but I think you might be able to fit a spare set of batts into the travel case, but it will be a tight squeeze for sure.

Super light, Small size, Very bright at the first 30 minutes. I did not buy this model though. I got the newer model: Petzl E02 P2 e+LITE Headlamp with Integrated Whistle. The whistle has been really handy for me to communicate with my friends in the no cell zones.

What an amazing product. Light, simple, flexible. I've had other hands-free "head lights", but this is the best by far. I run with it (flashing red or white) at night. Also, if camping or hiking, the solid red light preserves night vision.
Worth every penny. The jury is still out on battery life, but, if it's like other LED products, it will be good. Don't know how it does in dirty environment yet. I want 2. (one for front, one for rear... night running) |
