About Petzl: Innovative Designs, Practical Approach
Petzl, a family company, was born out of Fernand Petzl's passion for caving. One of the leading experts of his generation, Fernand spent his life experimenting with vertical progression techniques, and he invented equipment that radically changed the status quo. The Petzl company applied these underground tools and solutions to other vertical environments: first to the mountains--rock climbing and mountaineering--and then to the professional sector, with work and rescue at-height. The Petzl company quickly became known as the foremost innovator in the vertical world and has been associated with all major underground, alpine, and Himalayan adventures since the 1970s.

Today, Petzl is the leader of hands-free lighting. Petzl revolutionized the industry starting with the Zoom, and then the Tikka--the first compact light. The company moved forward to introduce the state-of-the-art e+Lite and Ultra, and it continues to work with outdoor sports enthusiasts and professionals to create innovative, practical, high-quality lighting and climbing products.

We have several of these and they are great for travel, hiking, hunting, work where light is needed, etc. These are much better than the kind with a big strap that goes around head. Very small, light weight and you can use on head, wrist or hold in hand. After using various kinds of "headlamps" for years, this is the very best we have used.

This is the first headlamp I have ever purchased. I liked the fact that you did not have to wear it on your head - it has a retractable "cord" so you can use it in different ways. I think the light is bright enough (40 lumens) and it is very compact. There are two different brightness settings, plus a flashing light as well. I've used it on two camping trips and it worked great. Very satisfied with the purchase.

The retractable string in the place of a standard strap is wonderful. It does not pull so tightly as to be uncomfortable, but it is just right to stay in place as I hike, jog, crawl, and everything else. I use it for both backpacking and for work, and it is great.

My only complaint is that the light is pointed somewhat downward. so it has to sit pretty high on my forehead in order to see very far out in front of me.

    Next time I need a headlamp, I won't shop around. I'll buy a Zipka.

The tiny string is so much better than a big elastic strap when you need it for running. I run a race that goes overnight and requires a headlamp. The regular kind with the big wide elastic bands are just not comfortable around your head when you're sweating. This one is just right. The tension is good, keeping it pretty well in place, the weight is pretty light, and the light level is adjustable. Only improvement I'd make: put the rubbery stuff to prevent slippage on the side that goes on the back of your head, as well as on the front. Otherwise, just about perfect headlamp for running.

I ordered this Zipka after reading all of the glowing reviews. I found it very uncomfortable to wear with the only two pressure points being in the front and rear. Even though padded, it will leave a large oval impression in the middle of your forehead. Also this Zipka is not adjustable and throws a light on the ground about ten feet in front of you; not far enough. I had to tilt my head back to see the trail ahead. Luckily I tried this on a short camping trip and returned it to Amazon. Yesterday I was in an Eddie Bauer store and picked up a headlamp for one third the price which was adjustable plus had red and green lights which are much less annoying when you are talking to anyone in the dark. All Eddie Bauer products have an unlimited satisfaction guarantee but I do not recall how long the Zipka warranty was.

Excellent concept/product! Strap is pulled tightly automatically, greatly reducing volume needed to store the headlamp. The strap is thin, but very comfortable. (More comfortable than the standard elastic material bands found in nearly all headlamps, in my opinion.) The headlamp is super bright, with three modes. Bright (press once), dim (press twice fast), and strobe (press three times fast). Stay in any mode for at least three seconds and the next click will turn it off-very convenient. Highly recommended headlamp, a must buy unless you need a red led headlamp.

I had lost my previous Petzl and couldn't find one at local store.
Used it from my outdoors class years ago, and haven't looked back since. Simply best headlamp out there...period.

This is really a review of the new zipka as I had one shipped to me instead of the zipka 2, all in all I would purchase the zipka 2 over the new zipka here's why:
I'm really not impressed with this one, while brighter it lacks feature of the standard zipka, for example on the zipka 2 if the light has been on for a few seconds there's only one click to turn it off. The original and Zipka 2 also has three brightness settings and a strobe this one has two brightness settings no strobe and you have to click through them to turn it off, it also feels like it's made of more brittle plastic and isn't as durable as the original zipka. And glow in the dark?? That requires light to work?? I keep this lamp in my pocket, an even if it was in a pack or the petzl zipka pouch what light will reach it to work?? Silly Petzl you messed up a great product!!

    I reccomend the original zipka.
