5.0 out of 5 stars Best Grinder Available
We've had this exact Peugeot 7" Pepper Grinder for 28 years.
We bought it because my Mother In-Law had been using hers
for about 30 years (which was 28 years ago, and shes 84 and still
uses it). This Pepper Grinder is used daily, works excellent,
never failed. I'm buying one for my daughter for Christmas
and I know she'll have it long...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but annoys
It seems that every time I grind pepper, the screw on top that you are supposed to adjust the coarseness with comes unscrewed. At first, I thought it was a defect, but I also got a salt grinder of the same kind, and it does the same thing, albeit to a lesser degree.
Looks good, works, but is annoying as you have to keep readjusting the screw every 3-4 turns. Not...

This review is from: Peugeot PM90401 Paris Classic 7-Inch Pepper Mill, Chocolate (Kitchen)
We have been using this mill for about 4 months, and it looks great on the table, but that's about it. It will grind pepper, but adjusting it is very hit-and-miss (mostly miss), and it won't hold an adjustment very well. On a fine setting, it works OK, but it is nearly impossible to get a coarse grind out of it - it seems to go from fine to medium, and then to too open to grind at all. We got better results out of a 20-year old no-name pepper mill. I would not buy this mill again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Peppermill, July 13, 2007
I have been looking for the perfect peppermill for nearly four years, and the Peugeot Paris Peppermill has allowed me to end my search. The size and weight of the mill provides for a 5-star restaurant feel while entertaining at home. Additionally the grind of the peppercorns provides just the right balance between the dust you can buy off the shelf in a grocery store and the grainy chunks I've gotten from other mills. This perfect grind prevents the pepper from overpowering the taste of the food. This truly is the perfect peppermill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still going decades later!, October 22, 2011

I have not purchased the new version yet (I came here to see if I could find one), but I've been using my original Peugeot pepper grinder for 35 years, and I wouldn't trade it! My current grinder still works perfectly, but it looks a little worn and sad now. I thought it might be nice to get a replacement, and one for each of my now-grown kids. While $35.00 might seem expensive, it pays for itself over the decades. A "convenient" pre-loaded, grocery store pepper grinder (McCormick makes them) is somewhere around $5.00 a pop, with only one grind option available, and needs to be replaced when the pepper has been used up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality no longer there, August 14, 2011
This review is from: Peugeot PM90401 Paris Classic 7-Inch Pepper Mill, Chocolate (Kitchen)
I bought this 7" Peugeot mill about two years ago. Part of the reason this mill gets only two stars from me is that it cost 35 dollars and was made by (or for) a prestigious name in pepper grinders. I expected something that would last a long time.

The VERY thin veneer surface material on the bottom section that twists began to crack and lift up after about six months.

Meanwhile, there was an intermittent problem getting the pepper to actually grind. The grinding chamber would appear to be empty and you'd need to sort of tap the side to get pepper in the actual grinding area. As for the six settings, you just turn the base to get the size grind you want, and it does go from a very fine grind all the way to pretty much cracked, which was great, and that makes it even more annoying that this lasted only about two years. Then one day last week about a third of the base broke off, detatched, split away, whatever, I didn't see it happen. The chunk was just laying there on the shelf. The grinder won't grind at all anymore.

I bought my parents a small Peugeot grinder and salt shaker at a gourmet shop for Christmas at least twenty years ago and they used the grinder until they very recently both died. I'm probably going to take them.

I ordered this for my husband who is very particular about pepper mills, we have tried many. This one lives up to the comsumer reports review. He loves it. It arrived very quickly and was well packaged.

1.0 out of 5 stars terrible, October 19, 2009
I bought this pepper mill after much research. What a mistake! Despite banging and shaking I can't get a consistant stream of pepper.Maybe it's the size or hardness of the peppercorns as mentioned by another reviewer, but I buy my peppercorns from a reputable on-line spice dealer so I would expect a good name pepper mill to do the job! I wouldn't give it away.
