3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to my expectations
Pfaltzgraff has been synonymous with quality in my life. When I saw the beautiful colors and muted pattern of these pieces I was very happy as they fit perfectly with my decor. Unfortunately I think they must be from Pfaltzgraff's "B" line as they are not up to the standards that I have known in Pfaltzgraff products before.

First I had trouble getting...

Being recently divorced I needed a nice looking set of dishes which was not in the motif of my married life. I chose the Pfaltzfraf Tuscan patter for the price and the look. I live in a rural area and need to receive my shipments at the post office if at all possible. That being said, the dinnerware shipped and arrived quickly but over 1/2 the items were broken due to the poor packaging from Pfaltzgraff and the equally poor packing by Amazon. I submitted a broken, please replace order and received the replacement set in pristine condition although the packaging was the same - go figure! Amazon sent me 2 sets of return emails - one that I pay the shipping and the others with UPS return shipping at Amazon's dime - confusing but I am using the free method. Ok, down to the dishes - they are nice and not a mass produced produced so there are some very, very minor blemishes. But I like that - they are kind of like me: very reasonable value but with character blemishes that make them endearing :-). I recommend this dish set but understand that you may need to stay involved for a while to get exactly what you want.

Oh - the cups are large, but this is nice. You can even use them for a good cup of soup. And the bowls are large, but tall. Very nice for soup and cereal. I wouldn't use them for salad as they are somewhat deep. The salad plates and dinner plates are a perfect size. I wash everything by hand right now so I don't know how they hold up in the dishwasher. However, there is a warning in the Pfaltzfraff literature with the dishes about the bottom of the plate that is not glazed - do not set the plate in water or soak it before you put it in the microwave or significantly change the temperature it will be in as they may crack.

The dishes are not heavy - this is nice, but to me this means I need to take a little bit of care of them as I use them.

All in all I like the dishes and would order them again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to my expectations, April 2, 2011

Pfaltzgraff has been synonymous with quality in my life. When I saw the beautiful colors and muted pattern of these pieces I was very happy as they fit perfectly with my decor. Unfortunately I think they must be from Pfaltzgraff's "B" line as they are not up to the standards that I have known in Pfaltzgraff products before.

First I had trouble getting two complete sets from Amazon that weren't broken. I believe that they shipped me four boxes before I finally received 8 undamaged place settings. But true-to-form Amazon came through and replaced/had removed both of the damaged boxes.

The place settings were as much as I expected. The color was as it is represented on Amazon's site. Each piece was slightly different as I believe they are hand painted. Very nice.

It is now six months later. Three of the pieces have chips on their edges. They are never mishandled and go gently into my dishwasher. I am always careful that the items in my dishwasher are spaced not to knock against each other. This tells me that these plates are not made to stand normal handling. Secondly it is obvious that the glazing on different pieces is not of consistent quality. Some of the bowl and cup interiors are still shiny and their original color. Some of them, however, are dull and get stained easily. Although soaking them in a bleach solution (recommended by the manufacturer) does remove most of the stain, this is not something that I have the desire to do. Additionally one of the cups that has minimal glaze has fine cracks in the glazing on it's interior. Bleach and water no longer reach the stains that have developed there, so I hide this piece in the back of my cabinet and make sure that this cup does not make its way to visitors.

It would be normal to think that I should just replace this set. Unfortunately I will probably buy yet another 4 piece set and just go on, as I haven't found a set that that I like as much for my decor. Also I have purchased complementary pieces (some are from another collection by Pfaltzgraff, whose plates I don't like). If I get another set then I will have to replace these pieces as well, making it more financially advantageous to just buy the additional plates. I really need to contact Pfalzgraff, but as happens with most things, when you work it is hard to find the time to contact them during their business hours. I will do so however...maybe email?

At any rate, unless you are like me and this design fits you to a "T", and you are willing to replace your pieces regularly, I'd steer clear of this dinnerware set.

Hi

I love these dishes. They look great. Everyone that sees them compliments them. They are the right weight. They arrived on time. I have nothing bad to say about them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacks Quality Control and Durability, January 2, 2011

The Pfaltzgraff name has always equated to quality in my book. After finding this perfect pattern, I ordered a service for 12. The pieces, I was told, are handmade and vary. They sure do! Some have glaze drips, some were chipped, some of the pattern was missing, some cups had uneven bottoms and did not sit properly, etc. Customer service was excellent; they replaced several of the pieces for me. However, after only six months, a few dishes are chipped (with normal use by three adults). My family dislikes the plates because they become too hot to handle when placed in the microwave, yet the food on the plate stays cold! If the pattern didn't match my decor so well I would have returned them.

Not amazons fault, they sent three sets to make two. There was a fourth set needed, but I just gave up and lowered my expectations. Proof again that China makes ****. My fault, thought I was getting a good deal. If you want quality I've relearned you won't get it from China.

We are getting new dishes after only a year! These get too hot in the microwave and are also cracking and chipping. My neice burned her hand when taking a cup out of the microwave.

Nervous to buy new dinner set via internet pictures only, but very pleased. These plates, bowls and mugs all look and feel great. Highly recommend! One plate arrived broken and I am working on replacing.

I had Pfatlzgraff Tea Rose for over 20 years and they were durable and always looked great - that is why I went with another Pfaltzgraff pattern. It is a beautiful pattern, but they are not nearly as durable and solid as my old pattern. I have had a coffee mug chip already. Bowls and mugs are a nice size. If you are looking for that durable quality from the older patterns you WILL be disappointed.

The Tuscan Olive dinnerware is just beautiful. The price is right, bowels are big so my husband loves them and kids dropped a plate and it didn't break. I like that it makes everyday dinners pretty. Very happy with this dinnerware.

4.0 out of 5 stars too heavy, January 28, 2012

The only disadvantage I can mention for them is that they are too heavy. I don't have dish washer and I have to wash them with my hands. The plates are too heavy to wash!
