2.0 out of 5 stars NOT STONEWARE!!!, April 29, 2010
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Everyday Sommersby 16- Piece Dinnerware Set (Kitchen)
I ordered this item elsewhere. I saved a lot of money by not ordering it here, so if your heart is set on this set of dishes, I would suggest price shopping. Anyway, I opened the box and one bowl was already chipped. I didn't bother opening the other box because I realized that these dishes are very lightweight for "stoneware." I have stoneware right now that I received for my wedding 21 years ago, and it is still going strong. On the other hand, I've had "earthenware" dishes that chipped and fell apart almost immediately, and I sensed that this was the case with Sommersby. I called Pfaltzgraff directly, and they told me that their own site doesn't tell what the dishes are made of (that says something), but after looking the info up, she found that it was, in fact, earthenware and NOT stoneware. She told me stoneware is fired at a higher temperature and is much less delicate than earthenware. I called the company where I ordered the set (Their name begins with an "O") and they were horrified that they had misrepresented the set, and will be giving me a full refund with pickup of the sets I ordered. They said they would also correct their mistake in saying it was stoneware. I hope that now Amazon will do the same, as it is false advertising to say that this set is stoneware!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute but easily chipped, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Everyday Sommersby 16- Piece Dinnerware Set (Kitchen)
These dishes are cute but not durable for everyday use. I bought them about 6 months ago and several of the dishes are chipped. Our previous set of dishes never chipped and I had young children who were not exactly careful with them. Fortunately, I did not get rid of the old dishes. I will be pulling them back out of the attic in a couple of years when these dishes have all chipped and I have turned them into some sort of mosaic project.
