4.0 out of 5 stars Small problem with the large size
This set has all the quality and good looks that I expected. There is only one problem-it is BIG! The 11" plates are so tall in my dishwasher that they only fit in the center of my KitchenAid dishwasher, so I can't wash more than 4 at once, and the bowls don't slide in between the prongs, but kind of have to lean over, so that they take up extra space. 1.0 out of 5 stars not the colors stated in the description
Yes these are beautiful dishes, however they are not grey and slate blue or two shades of grey.. they are purple!!! so when they arrived at my door I was really disappointed.. purple doesn't go with the color scheme I have... and slate blue/or grey would have done nicely!
so the one star is for Amazonz inability to properly describe the item!

I got the Rio set partly because of the 16 oz. mugs (my husband is a serious coffee drinker!). I love the design, but the plates and bowls are really way bigger than any person with a normal-size appetite needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely gorgeous, stunning set!, June 4, 2004

I love this Pfaltzgraff dinnerware set. I had purchased another 16-piece design set from another site, and I was very pleased with the quality of them. I bought these when Amazon had an amazing sale on them, and they are just really stunning. Worth every single penny I paid for them. If you can get this for under fifty bucks, buy it, you won't regret it!

Like the previous reviewer noted, the first thing I noticed was that these dishes are PURPLE, not blue like the picture indicates.

But they are nice, and sturdy, and have held up well to dishwasher treatment. But then again, I've only had them for 2 months. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these dishes!, February 19, 2004

These dishes are high quality and a great color. I wanted something fun and different. The mugs are perfect if you like coffe, tea or cocoa! I ordered one set and and in the process of ordering a 2 set of dishes, matching glasses and the sugar and creamer set.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like the set but lots of drawbacks, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Mystic 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I've had these plates for about 2 years. They are very pretty and overall I like them, but they have lots of drawbacks. First, they are very big -- the bowls especially are huge, and it's hard to track portions. Secondly, the plates get easily marked by silverware, so all of them now have thin black lines all over. Third, the salad plates are less durable (I've had 4 of 10 break in 2 years; none of the other pieces have broken). But most importantly, the plates come out of the microwave BURNING HOT! This is a major problem. I'll probably replace the whole set in another year or two.

3.0 out of 5 stars They're just OK, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Mystic 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I've had this set about 4 years. The big plates, bowls and cups have held up pretty well. The smaller white-and-blue plates, which have a slightly thinner texture, all broke within the first year.

My biggest complaint is that the bowls are HUGE, very large capacity. You can dump an entire can of soup into the bowl and without getting near the brim. A cup of cereal looks like a tiny serving in these bowls. Which is fine for some people, and I do think they look nice. But I had a harder time with portion control using the bowls.

The white parts of these dishes do develop faint gray stains - this puzzled us at first, but the Pfaltzgraff web site says this is perfectly normal for white stoneware. It's a reaction to stainless steel silverware. This really doesn't bother us, we just didn't expect it. Someone who loves pristine dishes should probably avoid white stoneware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!!, April 20, 2007

I purchased the whole set. Everything came in perfect condition. As I opened all my boxes I knew right away that they were just what I wanted. They are not purple as one of the reviews stated. I almost didn't buy them because of that review. They are a soft wedgwood blue. After forty years of marrage this is my third set of every day dishes, so you can see I don't just buy anything that comes along. It takes me weeks of studying and shopping to make a good decision. I love the pasta plates. The butter dish is just the right size. The gravy boat is so cute and the dinner plates are just the size my husband wanted. I love how the salad plate fits on top of the dinner plate. They look so festive together. I'm going to enjoy this set of dishes for many years to come.

The dishes not only look good but are a good size, the complete set is really nice. Not too dark so that other colours can also be used at the same time.

We've had these dishes for about a year and a half, and I've be unhappy with them for some time. the plates are covered in lines from cutting food with silverware on them. We've had about 2 mug handles break, but there seems to be a pattern to the bowl rims chipping. i just don't like how they hold up, i don't think I'd buy pfaltzgraff again.
