This is definitely a nice set, especially for the price.
However, it has some flaws:

1) The white glazed finish scratches fairly easily when using sharp knives;

2) the bread/side dish has a lip that is too wide for its base. Specifically, when you push down on this plate with a knife or fork anywhere on the lines, the plate tilts up. It's just not balanced well;

3) Similarly, the mugs aren't designed all that well from an ergonomic standpoint. When they are full, they just feel as though they can tip over way too easily, since they are much wider at the brim then at the base.

Unless you really like the color/pattern, I suggest you choose one of the other patterns in this series.

Before listing this pattern on our wedding registry we looked at what must have been 200 different sets of dishes. Imagine how thrilled I was to find a stylish set of dishes that were not only affordable but also offered the fantastic quality that seems to be synonymous with the Pfaltzgraff name.

These are quality stoneware dishes that present a beautifully stylish table for any occasion. There is no doubt that, like so many other sets of Pfaltzgraff dishes out there, I have found a "winner" that seems to be made to last a lifetime.

Despite an early concern that the colored lip of the plates might be too large, we have found them to be the perfect size for meal time. The lip itself does not interfere with being able to actually serve a full meal and, along with the rest of the set, looks simply beautiful for everything from tuna casserole to our Thanksgiving celebrations.

The stripes on the smaller plate are a charcoal color and, if left to their own device, do not seem to match up well with the plates. The addition of either the bowls or the mugs, which are strong with both of the colors here, tie the two plates together exceptionally well.

The bowls are just abut the perfect shape and size. No more flat lipped bowls and the mess that comes with them. This pattern also offers pasta bowls (though not available here that I can find) that repeat the dinner plate pattern and coloring.

Solid stoneware, Pfaltzgraff quality, an ever growing catalog of matching serving and glassware pieces and an exceptional value make these dishes a fantastic choice.
