4.0 out of 5 stars 10oz Pfaltzgraff Winterberry Covered Mug with Tea Diffuser - Made in China
Pretty 10 oz ceramic mug with cover and diffuser made in China. The little leaf that goes on the tea diffuser is not painted as nicely as the mug and cover, and has white paint spatters on the edges. The cover fits nicely on the mug, and doesn't drip while you are waiting for your tea to steep. The handle is a little awkward to get my small hand around, a more open handle...

2.0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointing.
I purchased two of the Pfaltzgraff Winterberry Covered Mug with Tea Diffuser, unfortunately on the first day of receiving the items the diffuser pin broke and the bottom rim of the mug chipped. So, I would not consider these items to be durable, but still a nice item to have for rare occasional use.

The handle is a little awkward to get my small hand around, a more open handle design would probably be a big improvement. If you have larger hands, I would avoid this style. Not the best covered mug around, but useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Mug, Reasonable Diffuser, December 22, 2010

This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 12-Ounce Covered Stoneware Mug with Stainless-Steel Tea Diffuser (Kitchen)
My mother bought this mug for me for Christmas because I am a huge tea drinker. It is a gorgeous mug; mine is very well painted with no obvious blemishes. The cover works well -- I have a tendency to forget that I have made tea, and with the cover on the tea keeps warm for a few hours more than usual. The mug has sustained relatively few chips, mostly on the bottom, despite frequent use and my own clumsiness.

Unfortunately, I was lifting the mug with its cover from a high ledge, and the cover went flying off the mug and broke into four pieces. However, I think this is mostly my fault for keeping the mug and lid so high up, since the lid is not a tight fit. Thus I would recommend that you not store the mug with the cover in place.

The tea diffuser worked okay the first few tries, though it stained pretty quickly. It also does not close as tightly as I would like, and thus tea leaves sometimes escape into the tea. Furthermore, the tiny piece of metal that forms the hinge somehow got deformed, and one half of the diffuser kept getting loose. I was able to put it together the first few times, but the hinge fell off altogether during transport, and now the diffuser is useless. Thus, I wish that the diffuser had been better designed.

Overall I would say that the mug and cover are well-made, if fragile, but the tea diffuser could be better designed. All the same, I ordered a second one to replace the broken cover and tea diffuser, as it is one of my favourite mugs.

UPDATE: Upon receiving my Amazon.com mug, it looks like the tea diffuser has been given a finer mesh and closes more tightly than the one I received as a gift. I will keep my rating as is, but this looks like a hopeful improvement.

Thank you for reading and happy shopping.

Nice price for a nice mug, cover and diffuser set. Very good for the holidays. Unfortunately, the one we received came with a chip out of it. I am asking for a replacement. We'll see how they respond and I will update my review accordingly...

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my new cool tea mug!, October 23, 2008
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 12-Ounce Covered Stoneware Mug with Stainless-Steel Tea Diffuser (Kitchen)
My new tea mug is wonderful. the tea diffuser makes it so much easier to get that specific taste you want and the lid keeps it hot so much longer. It really looks good displayed on my hutch when I'm not using it!

2.0 out of 5 stars great idea... horrible paint job, November 17, 2011

So I don't write reviews very often, I have to feel strongly to do so. the mug is very cute, i love the size, handle and the lid. it doesn't stay warm for much longer than an uncovered one, but I find that it does help some. I can't comment on the tea infuser because i haven't used it.
What has bothered me the most is that half of the "berries" aren't painted, and that is just poor craftsmanship and poor quality control. I would have expected more from this brand. i would ask for a refund but i didn't notice it until I had started using the mug.
i have posted pictures under customer images.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely adorable set! Couldn't be happier!, January 11, 2012
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 12-Ounce Covered Stoneware Mug with Stainless-Steel Tea Diffuser (Kitchen)
I was lucky enough to receive TWO of these as a gift two Christmases ago from my lovely, thoughtful niece. I love the heft of this cup and the beautiful design on it. I use them every single day of the year. These are my go-to mugs. If you fill them up to the very top they hold 12 oz. I can't help running my hands over the beautiful textured sculpting of the body. It's just a bonus that they come with lids and stainless steel mesh tea infusers. The ones that came with mine are large. I have not chipped mine yet but I can see it would be very easy to do. I live alone so I don't have to worry about kids chipping them. If something happens it will only be my fault. I wash these daily in the dishwasher and warm up my coffee in them in the microwave all the time. Am very happy to see lots of these for sale on the Internet because I think they make fantastic, unique gifts and I will be able to replace mine if I break them. They are just adorable! Love the Winterberry pattern. Had never seen it before I received mine. If you want to give a memorable gift, buy one of these and be prepared for lavish thank-yous!

I am very pleased with my teacup. I use it for all hot drinks. Having a lid on it is just what I was looking for. The size is great!

This little mug is darling! I was wary of ordering it after reading bad reviews on it, but I decided to see it for myself. It is perfect -- free of any flaws and very neatly painted. I love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fine mug but..., December 28, 2011
This review is from: Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 12-Ounce Covered Stoneware Mug with Stainless-Steel Tea Diffuser (Kitchen)
I received this as a Christmas gift and I was very excited because the picture looks so nice. Once I opened it I was a little disappointed. The paint or glazing job is deplorable. Less than half of the berries are painted and the leaves are green circles that kind of hit the raised areas. My lid doesn't fit and the tea ball is tiny, half the size of most. It's also very light but mine holds 14 ozs so I guess thats nice. I definitely wouldn't buy another one or give as a gift. I had intended to buy the 8 piece place setting for next years Christmas dinner but I certainly won't now, after seeing the shoddy craftsmanship of this mug.
